If I didn't post it in the thread that gave you this idea, the deck below is a fantastic multiplayer life-gain deck.

http://deckbox.org/sets/81465

As is, it's extremely aggro and can gain absurd amounts of life; I've been up over 100 on a few occasions.  Having 4x Ajani's Pridemate is critical as is having 12x cards that gain you life when creatures ETB (Soul Warden, Soul's Attendant, Suture Priest).  In your case, since you're running green, you could use Essence Warden instead but I strongly recommend dropping green altogether and playing the build I have linked above.  As mono-white you are now open to Honor of the Pure/Crusade which turns the little guys that were just gaining you life into effective beaters.

Serra Ascendants and Squadron Hawks are also very important to the deck.  They provide the kill in most games.

Lastly, I do not like the Inquisitor Exarchs in my build and will be dropping them for Chalice of Life.  Everything else in the deck runs very well and it's very fun to play.  It lacks true control and flying defense but the absurd amount of life gain in the deck usually makes up for it.  Especially in a large, multi-player game where you have so many people triggering the Soul Wardens and her sisters.

If you are hellbent on buying a box, why not wait a few weeks and pick up one of the new set that is coming out?

Otherwise, honestly, I don't think you should buy a box at all.  If you are looking to spend money on a bunch of cards at once to fill out decks then sites like StarCityGames and ChannelFireball are usually your best bet.  They should have most of what you need and will only ding you once for shipping.

If you are looking to acquire most of your cards through trading it's still very possible but might take some extra effort.  A common tactic is to trade several low-end cards for a single mid-range card that you don't necessarily want but that has good trade value.  Do this a couple of times and you can turn $15 worth of $0.50 cards into three $5 cards.  Then look for trades that contain the more expensive card you are really after and you'll eventually get it.  It will take significantly longer but will cost a LOT less money and it's kind of fun!

I would not buy a box of anything from the Scars of Mirrodin block simply for trade bait since it's about to rotate in 6 months and you will likely lose money on that deal.  I agree with Vyr1s that I normally stay away from core sets but M12 is somewhat of an exception with Phantasmal Images and the Titans.  I probably still wouldn't do it, though.  You're not all that likely to even get a titan in a box and then it would have to be one of the pricier ones to even matter.  Most of the other M12 rares are junk that most people don't want making it a risky investment.

EDIT: Grammar

This set should be available soon.

Don't forget that the trade area uses TCG mid prices and you can't change that.  I switched to low for a while and then switched back due to that small detail.  If you don't trade then don't worry.

If, however, the other party is unresponsive multiple times and/or their responses are defiant instead of helpful I think there is room for neutral feedback.

EDIT:  If you happen to catch the original version of this reply it was wordy and unnecessary so I chopped it down.  I'm tired sad

I see.  I did not realize you were looking for a filter to get you every possible multi-colored card that optionally matched your other search criteria.  I was under the impression your desired result set was more refined than that but you've explained the problem very well in this response.

If it's any consolation, the Deckbox admins strike me as the kind of people who are handy with SQL Unions wink

Thank you Thrun!  You beat me to it so I will leave this in your hands.

I'd like to see this too!

I think the color filter set to "Exclusively All Of" will get you just multi-colored cards.

I don't have the full deck but if you aren't fortunate enough to get the deck outright I have some of the cards to make the deck.  It would also probably help everyone here if you posted a list.  Builds can vary by hundreds of dollars.

Email, and forward this thread with a few detailed suggestions to Sebi.
that's my best advice.

That's a good point.  We don't need to spark further debate and my intention is to give it visibility.  I will take your advice, thanks!

I think that's a good idea but I also know that this site was built and is maintained by two very awesome people who have day jobs.  If they spend their time moderating feedback they will have less time to make improvements to the site which is what they really want to be doing (and it's what we want too smile).  It would be awesome if some people could serve as arbiters in trades gone bad but I wouldn't want to take the site administrators away from making Deckbox better.

Does anyone know if Sebi and/or Laura read this board?  This thread is forking in to two concerns, one about a way to deal with bad traders (the original intent) and another about how feedback is left.  I might split it and move them both to the feedback forums if that's OK with the moderators here.  (I don't just want to jack your thread and move it around on you tongue)

You are correct, sir.  I was actually commenting on what happens after I've gone through that entire list.  What do I do then?  My options are to beg for a site enhancement (purdy pwease?) or to comb through that list again and again trying to keep track of who is new.

Sebi, you're my hero! tongue

Sorry to all the people whose feedback I messed up like an idiot.

Haha, I LOVE Grimgrin, Corpse-Born + Rooftop Storm!  I have an EDH deck built with that and it is so much fun to play.

There are two things that stand out to me as an issue with this build.

1.  The artifact ramp (e.g. Silver Myr, Palladium Myr and Warden of the Wall) and the cards to protect the combo (e.g. swiftfoot boots and undying evil) would be better replaced by more control cards like Go for the Throat, Black Sun's Zenith and Mana Leak.

2. You should probably run more copies of the combo pieces (i.e. Devouring Swarm, Gravecrawler, Rooftop Storm).  I think you would also benefit from 2 Grimgrin, Corpse-Borns in the deck as they are really, really good in this setup.

You can probably see that the deck that is shaping up is more of an aggro/control list with a combo backup in case the aggro needs a little push.  The reason for this is that Rooftop Storm is funny and all but it is slow and fragile.

To that end, you may want to look at Diregraf Captain to double-up the damage dealt by sacrificing Gravecrawler to Devouring Swarm or Grimgrin, Corpse-Born.

To answer your question, "will a deck like this get there", the answer is yes but you need to keep pressure on your opponent or they will just kill you before you get to combo out.  That pressure is kept with either absurd amounts of control (available in standard but expensive, monetarily) or with an aggro setup that rides along with the combo.  The latter of these two approaches detracts from the original combo goal but will ultimately end up with more wins and more consistent games.

I hope that helps and isn't too far removed from what you had in mind.  If it is and you really want to work on a pure combo strategy regardless of how often it wins (hey, it's fun and we've all done it) I would be happy to provide different advice.

The problem with the feedback system is that one person always has to leave it first. So it gives you strong incentive to leave positive feedback regardless of how bad the trader is because of fear that he'll leave negative feedback in return.

That's a very valid point and I agree with Bertongod that a change to the feedback system wherein neither party may see the feedback score until both have been entered seems like a reasonable solution.

I have a few of these. let me put a trade together.

Also, it would be somewhat helpful if you used the mtg card link codes so we can see these cards without looking them up.  I am not going to die but it would save me the time of looking them up myself (and everyone else for that matter).

THAT! is funny.

I linked a deck before (http://deckbox.org/sets/81089) and I play it with my casual group from time to time.  I think the Smokestacks are likely what is bothering the casual deck folks and this this build is less likely to cause a fuss.  Although, turn 1 Lodestone Golems and turn 2 Wurmcoil Engines still make people pretty angry but at least you aren't also working the control angle.

It's just a thought.  The Stax information provided by TheShop is very thorough and it's a really fun deck to play if you don't have to worry about the same group of people recognizing the deck and killing you immediately for playing it.

The politics of casual play...  tongue

It's a well written set of rules.  I don't use MTG Salvation for trading but it seems to me that they have a different dilemma in that their trading is facilitated by forum posts.  If that's true then I see the need for these rules.  On Deckbox, we have the feedback system and the admins have the ability to turn off a users ability to trade.  That seems like the equivalent of a "BTR" on MTG Salvation's MarketPlace with the added benefit that nobody has to check the aforementioned thread before they are made aware of a bad trader.  What other options need be exhausted?

It's not like I am going to stand in anybody's way if they really want a bad trader forum created.  I couldn't if I wanted to.  I just want everyone to be sure there isn't already a mechanism in place to handle what they want; even if it isn't done the same way other sites are doing it.

For what it's worth I am somewhat against a bad trade forum.  It has little potential to help the users get their cards, a mild amount of potential to warn future traders and a large amount of potential to turn in to a witch hunt.  That isn't good for anybody and, in the end, defeats the very purpose of its creation because it wouldn't be reliable.

I personally just finished a trade today that I may have blasted all over the proposed forum had one existed.  As it turns out, the other trader was simply very slow and a poor communicator.  Had I posted his name the damage to his reputation would have been done and yet he didn't do anything that couldn't have been resolved through the trade feedback system.

That's small comfort for those who have truly lost their cards, I am sure.  But, you always have the recourse of leaving negative feedback and getting the Deckbox admins involved who may eventually suspend trading privileges for the user in question.  This method does a better job of pushing for a resolution and warning other users to trade cautiously (often because they won't be able to trade with them).

Boo Urns...  I did this again!  Would you please change my feedback score with Frickenchance from 0 to +1.

Also, can there be a prompt to confirm if we want to leave less than +1 or have the default be +1?  This would make my life, and apparently yours, much easier!

Bump!

I am also now looking for the following:

Insect token from Onslaught.  Seen here (http://images.trollandtoad.com/products … 123492.jpg)
2x Black/Green Wurm token.  For Creakwood Liege

I know someone who has several he is looking to sell but he no longer plays Magic and isn't looking for trades.  If you're interested I can try and set something up.

If you haven't been using the trade chat box you may want to repeat the e-mails you've sent and give the user time to respond.  Given that the user hasn't been online in a few weeks I can assume he/she will not respond.  The reason for doing this, however, is to cover yourself.  It is stated in the trading help section that the trade chat log is the first place an admin will check to ensure a reasonable attempt has been made to resolve the issue.  Without it, you probably won't get very far.
