The current API we have pulls the TCGPlayer Average price.  It looks like one or more merchants have listed the card at a very high price point (I saw one at $250), so that has skewed the average.

We are hoping to get an updated API (or a fix) to let us pull the TCGPlaer Median (the price at the middle of the list), to provide a more realistic "average" (typical) price.  The technical hows and whens depend on Sebi and company, so I cannot speculate as to when we may see such a change.

I use the TCGPlayer average price as the value of my collection for insurance purposes.  [The high prices are often ridiculous.] That's what I would expect to pay if I had to buy my entire collection card by card.  The TCGPlayer average is often very close to what you'll find on StarCityGames.com and other sites.

In my experience, most shops will give you 30-50% of a card's value. A typical collector may offer you up to 75% of the value. That, incidentally, is a common selling point for many cards on Ebay (around 75% the TCGPlayer average), though prices there vary. Some collectors might offer you more, if you have specific cards they have been chasing. If many of the money cards you have are in Standard, you might get less, since most of those will see a price drop when they rotate out. Caveat venditor.

As to pricing at shops, remember that many price cards as they are put on display, and infrequently adjust them again. So, if a shop picked up a Thundermaw Hellkite when they were going for $40+, they might still have it priced near $40 today (especially if they bought it for $20). The same thing often happens when cards go up in price, so sometimes you find a steal.  I was in two different shops during the past week. One had Gideon Jura for less than $5, and one had him at $11. Caveat emptor.

Other shops may have buyers who work only one or two days a week, so prices will get updated when they are working if they have time or are aware of significant price changes.

I mostly responded the way I did to HikingStick's comments because I honestly felt like he didn't even read what I wrote.  If people want to respond with their opinions and comments, I hope that they would at least read what I had initially written.

He assumed that my partner had shipped and on the 19th, when clearly my trade partner said he was going to ship on the following Monday, the 22nd and as far as I know, had not shipped yet based on not hitting the "I have sent my cards" button.  It's one thing to want to chime in on a topic, it's another to entirely skim over a post and make assumptions that just aren't there.  Similarly, when he wanted to lecture me on reading the BTR guidelines, I had clearly posted within the rules and waited two weeks post-acceptance (once again, because I cannot wait two weeks post-shipment if shipment never occurs).

I had read it.  While it was not marked shipped, the partner stated (if recalling the details correctly) that he was shipping on the 19th (or, per your comments, the following Monday).  While some may never to forget to mark "I shipped my cards", I just got back from a trip out of town and realized that I had done just that.  I just marked my cards shipped today, even though they went out on Wednesday. I was giving your trading partner the benefit of the doubt, and suggesting an adequate wait to allow for postal delays.  In any case, no action would be taken until Sebi or Catinca emailed your partner and gave him/her a chance to respond.

Again (as per an earlier post), I apologize if my attempt to put the brakes on the process offended you in any way.

At this time, aside from exporting all the cards, editing the CSV file, and reimporting them, there are no batch options in the system.

As you enter cards, you do have the option of setting the entry defaults.  If you set those as you start entering, it will put all cards in with those defaults during that session.

I knew about all that, but I still would like to be able to see more than 25 cards per page.

I agree, this can be a bit restrictive. Maybe a drop-down menu to extend pages 50, 100, 250 cards would be reasonable, when one needs to survey a larger listing.

Yes, some additional page size options would be great.  As originally stated, it would have been crazy imagining page loads for colelctors with 10k, 20k or even more cards.  ;-)

Such a feature works for those who keep copies for every deck.  Some of us just move cards between them.  I leave a note card when I take cards out of a deck box that lists the cards and the deck to which they went (e.g., 1 Silverblade Paladin to GoST Commander deck).

Review the guidelines on how much time should be allowed to pass before posting a BTR. Sebi and I communicated via email on various drafts of the updated rules before they were posted.

I'm glad you've had no trouble with the USPS. I have had packages take three weeks to arrive (within the US) because they got shipped to the other side of the country first, and that's within the past few months. I shipped to California with tracking, and after my local post office logged it as in transit, the reporting went silent for about two weeks.  Then, as I was preparing to send replacement cards, the status was updated that they were in Boston.  After showing up in Boston, they finally got to California a few days later.  Sometimes things happen (USPS first class mail does not guarantee delivery).

I post only as a moderator and community member who hopes that patience will prevail before BTR mitigation is necessary.  I'm sorry if my involvement has offended your sensibilities.

While your partner's lack of communication is troublesome, do keep in mind that two to three weeks is not out of the ordinary for USPS mail delivery.  If sent on the date listed (4/19), then only a week and a half have passed.  Some additional time may be needed...

My LGS has already indicated they won't sell boxes.  They anticipate packs to go for $15 (or more) each on the day of release.

As I understand it, they intended to use Modern Masters to introduce more players to the format, and to make it more accessible.  Sadly, it seems they are only Legacy-izing the Modern format (raising prices and creating a barrier to entry).

I always sort by Last Added before starting to add cards.

I also always pre-sort my cards by set (and color, and {often} alphabetically).  That way, I can change the default once and enter a bunch of cards.  Then, when I see the first card of the next set, I change the defaults again and keep entering.

I just wish the card defaults would stay from session to session (I have to set them every time).

You can't do it easily trade by trade, but you can set the preferred price used for your account.  Just visit your Settings page.

I sort collections as a hobby (and for trade credit!), so whenever I do that I offer to enter inventory here, under a new account in their name.  I have entered inventory for only one person that way, however, as most I know are not so anal about keeping track of their cards.

That reminds me that I need to check in with a friend who dropped off a binder full of Revised and Unlimited cards a while back.  I emailed him when I was done, but he has not replied. Some mighty nice cards in there...

Thank you for the clarification.

If the Deck builder screen allowed you to specify all the details available in inventory, would that work? Each "deck" could represent a collection, and those special decks could be organized in a single folder.

As it stands now, however, that is not an option (no details on card version, etc.).

Would you be using the different online inventories in conjunction with another price tracking system? Deckbox does not keep historical price information at this time.  Each time you view a completed trade, you see the current price. [I just  pulled open some of my oldest trades to confirm this.]

Sebi and company decide on features for upgrades and the like. I'm fairly confident they've seen these before (multiple inventories, details in decks), so it will be up to them to determine what projects provide the best return for the community.

What buttons? I never saw any buttons and never heard them mentioned.

Shadowborn Apostle is one, and some sites suggest it will be part of the 2014 core set.

The site lets you import CSV files with all headers.  Export you collection, and then look at the first line. It will have all of the appropriate column headers.

Some folks have run into some hiccoughs along the way, so I recommend searching for other threads on importing. You'll likely find some good tips to help you avoid trouble.

I don't import much, so I'm of little help in that regard. ;-)

Would you mind posting your reasoning for two inventories? I'm curious as to the need.  Might there be some other way of handling separate portions of a collection, like a "collections" field, that would let you specify specific cards to display in a subset (e.g., all my foils, dual lands)?

EDIT: Punctuation.

I read somewhere that they recently changed their on-site pricing to use the median price rather than the average.  I believe the API used here must be pulling the average price.

... take into consideration cards like Executioner's Swing. The creature has to deal damage before you can utilize that card, as well. So once it's dealt damage, what is the point of giving it -5 to its power? The card might as well read "gives target creature -0/-5" or "destroys target creature with toughness 5 or less" (as I've seen similar rules on other cards).

By dropping the power by five, you also prevent that creature's power from being used in combination with other effects, like Pit Fight, after the end of the combat damage phase.

I often am accessing this site from my phone, so it is not very suited to viewing detailed attachments.  If the amounts do not line up, it is out of my hands, and we will need to wait for Sebi or Catinca to chime in.

Two things to keep in mind:

1) No user statement or policy can trump the site rules. I ran into one the other day where the user placed a disclaimer in his/her profile stating s/he would not be responsible for cards lost by the postal service, even if tracking was used.  That doesn't align with site policies and rules, so such a profile policy would be null and void.

2) Sebi has received other comments about people proposing offers from inventory.  A recent suggestion was that Inventory be marked private by default.  I believe he is considering that option.

What pricing model do you have set in your profile: TCGPlayer Low, Average, or High? I believe the export only does the Average.  If those values don't match up, Sebi will need to look into it.

I would never agree to a trade larger than $10-$15 with a person with zero feedback.  Regardless of the amount, I would never ship first to someone with zero feedback (unless we both had zero feedback, as with a first trade for both parties).

I would run from that trade proposition like the other person has the black plague.  Either that, or insist that s/he sends first.

The rules do not insist on sending order, but this information is found in the trading guidelines for the site:

Transactions

-If there is no consensus on who sends the cards first, the person
with the lower feedback score should (For equal feeback scores, both send
at the same time).

If you do continue with the trade, be sure to insure your package and get delivery confirmation.  Require your partner to do the same.

The main site loads fairly quickly on their 4g network.  The forums load a little more slowly, but tolerable.

I'm composing and sending this from my phone.

I think my phone call is going to make many members very happy!
