Looks really nice :-) I'd add an icon, though, as people making shortcuts to the site will see some gibberish on their phones.

So... Sebi announced his own apps for iOS and Android, which would use a private API for now (no ETA on an API I could use), therefore this project is officially closed on my end. Thank you for your interest in the app. I'd love for it to be a much more polished and sophisticated program, but I'm sure Sebi will come up with something you'll be pleased to use.

Well, unless you're developing the apps yourself, the amount of work building, documenting and maintaining any API should - in theory - be roughly the same, private or not...

All in all thanks for being blunt on your plans in regard to your stance on mobile and the API. Good luck with the apps! I'll surely check them out :-)

No ETA at all, depends how much time I will have. I will be looking for a job in january, I am not sure yet what development schedule I can make for deckbox outside of that.

No ETA on API, sorry, I reaaaaaly really honestly wanted one, just never found the time to do it.

The time and effort needed to built and maintain and document a public API, and the overhead it introduces because of backward compatibility for future features is very very high. sad

Additionally, communicating with third party API users and app developers and then redirecting support requests from deckbox site users to them incurs additional time requirements.

Sebi, I don't mean to be rude or anything, but... you're promising an app as a premium feature and you've just admitted there is no way for such app to communicate with Deckbox... The way I see it, the API has to come first, then would come the apps, therefore there's no possible way for you to have an app ready in the near future.

Or am I missing something?

Anyways, like I said I have an almost finished iOS app. If you'd like to work something out for your Users, I'm all ears.

Thanks for NOT telling us, devs, about your official mobile apps plans, keeping us in the dark, not delivering on API's for the site (promised close to 2 YEARS AGO!) and making us just waste time.

A sweet, sweet move, you guys...

Thank you for your continued interest in the Deckbox app. Unfortunately, the development has been put on hold for the time being. The reason, as always, is lack of proper API's. Sebi and the Team, since they started monetising the site, have other priorities and that's understandable. I, on the other hand, just don't want to sound like a broken record and keep asking them for the API's, which obviously are not coming.

I think I owe you some explanation, though:

  • The app somewhat works right now. It even downloads decklists, though not grouped in folders (some screenshots are posted below). There are some minor bugs, obviously, but for it to be released, it would need a lot more work and polish.

  • I gave up on making the Android version myself a long time ago. I do have a skilled friend, who would help, but since there are no API's and the app brings zero revenue, there are no incentives for him to even start working on the app.

  • I started a somewhat child project a year ago, called "Wishlist for Magic", which is in development right now. The app is already available on the App Store ( https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/wishlis … 77921?mt=8 ) and in the next version it'll handle other lists. I did think about adding an "import from deckbox" feature to help out iDeckbox fans, but honestly there are more important things that need to see the light of the day before this could happen. However, if such an idea would appeal to iDeckbox users, I could make it happen.

If you have any questions or suggestions, shoot.

Great changes, thanks! :-)

How about some new APIs for app developers out there? ;-)

So are you getting closer to completion? Any idea of a release date? Or with Swift being released, do you think you'll re-program it using that making it a while longer before you can release anything? Also, I've used your Life Counter app and think it's great. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the counter shout out.

The app is in the works. Holiday season and me going full indie doesn't help, but if all planets align I'll release it in the beginning of september. I've got another similar project available (Wishlist for Magic) and am thinking about merging them together, but iDeckbox will get it's update soon.

ya so i am going to be that guy. any word on the android version?

Nope, sorry. I had plans to make one, but since Apple introduced a new programming language, instead of attempting an Android version (and learning JAVA), I have to learn Swift.

Looking cool!

That's just the start ;-)

Just out of curiosity, how is the iphone app is going?

Slow but steady. I've implemented downloading all sets and a single set. What's left is the view for presenting users data and - tadaaaa - card searching. To make it complete i'd have to include some updating/persistency logic because downloading 5000 cards each time a user enters his/her inventory would not be smart. On top of that some polish and app will be ready.

Here's a WIP screenshot:

It's working great with v2=true but could you share all the parameters? I only know of:

columns=Count,Type,Cost,Price,Rarity,Image%%20URL

And that's it. How to know which card is in sideboard and which isn't?

Btw. Looks like the v2 works differently for decks and INV/WISH/TRD? I'm getting different responses...

http://deckbox.org/sets/export/260440?f … mage%20URL

This returns count as 0. It used to work and works for inventories etc.

sebi wrote:

Should be the same. Could you send me an url to the export that is causing troubles?

I made some tests and it turns out the export works ok for Inventory, Wishlist and Tradelists but returns 0 as a count for exported decks. Also, there's no indication if a card is maindecked or in sideboard, which is kind of important.

sebi wrote:

gmabber, a temporary solution that might help you get the app running again:

http://deckbox.org/sets/list.json?user_login=sebi

It does not list private inventories and decks yet, but you can use it as a quick solution until the proper API is coming.

Sebi, has anything changed with the CSV exports? The card count i'm getting always equals to zero... I'm forming url's as you described some time ago...

I'm in the process of making an update. Stay tuned.

Works great! Thanks! big_smile

sebi wrote:

Completely understandable. I will start on a readonly alpha version after this release, even if it's just going to be authentication and fetching a user's list of sets.

Awesome! Just drop me a line when you finish and I'll update the app :-)

561895118 wrote:

im sorry guys i didnt want to start a fight

It most definitely is not a fight :-) Also, I'm glad you like the app. I'd make it much more but without an API I'd constantly be struggling with things like login problems, set downloading progress, one star reviews (which are really really disappointing for me), support requests and others and I simply don't have the rime for that. Either I can do something great or it's not worth it to waste my time on and right now I'd be wasting my time.

Sebi, I really don't need all that much to make the app work... If you could just provide me with a read-only API, that'd be enough for now. CSV exports for everything are there... all I need is a stable way of acquiring set numbers with names for users in one convenient JSON response. I could take over from there and import stuff into the app. Managing those sets could be implemented later. Right now people can't access their data because there's no way for me to get inventory, tradelist and wishlist set numbers and I'm not going to ask people to find them out on their own because I'll drown under support requests.

561895118 wrote:

dosent seem to work no more, cannot connect from iphone or update list?

It doesn't and it won't until Sebi and the Team release a working API for the site. I'm done with scraping the site for info and keeping up with deckbox.org updates. I've been promised a working API about two years ago. Based on the promise I made an app which people really want to have and use but since the team has other priorities, I decided to have other priorities, too, so the app remains unfinished and unpolished.

*If* you want to have a better app, please let the Team know. For now the app is removed from the App Store because I don't have time to answer a few emails per day asking why can't somebody use the app.

Finally news on the API! I'm glad to hear it should be readable in May. Please bear in mind I'll be quoting you on that one ;-) Over 7 thousand fine iDeckbox Users wait for me to extend the app and my hands are tied until the API shows up.

If you need help or have questions about potential usage, just drop me a line.

Cheers!

Great update! Thanks!

Btw. is there any way to grab those prices as csv/json response?

[mtg][/mtg]I hope it allows you to look at all of your created decks and be able to edit them (add/delete cards)

Nope, it doesn't. Just browsing inventory, wishlist and tradelist. I would add deck browsing and creation if there was a proper API, but... there isn't one.

I'm planning to update the app to iOS7 by the end of the year, though...
