Looks like you did just fine, Alex ;-P
Things are always a LITTLE quiet between sets - even with the snort span of time between this time around, it's not surprising.
And Everyone I've talked to is really hot or cold with Edge of Eternities - there doesn't seem to be a grey area.

I am actually more excited for the set than I anticipated. The story was REALLY good, the cards look cool, plus rumors of Strip Mine and Ancient Tomb being on the Bonus Sheet is a plus.

The thing that bums me out are the Pokémon scalpers hanging around with this set to scalp the CBs again. And then we get Spider-Man, which I'm lukewarm on, unless we see a Moon Knight card, then Avatar, which I actually DO NOT care about. But guaranteed the Pokémon scalpers will probably be around for a while, snaking the CBs for those sets as well.

Yea, not thrilled seeing CB's already spiking over $400. Blatantly ridiculous.
New players brought in from FF don't help, as they don't get that they hype from FF doesn't translate into ALL sets.

I'm 100% looking forward to Edge of Eternities, but I'll be skipping both Spider Man (Though I may snag a Venom card if they make a good one) and Avatar. Neither are really my thing.

Honestly, I think a lot of Pokémon scalpers jumping into Magic with this upcoming set are going to get burned, unlike with Final Fantasy. MTG isn’t the same kind of market. In Pokémon, you’ve got an enormous collector base that’s happy to slab anything with a shiny foil or nostalgic value. But in Magic, the bulk of the community actually plays the game, in my opinion. That means value is driven more by playability and demand within formats, not just rarity or sealed hype.

Agreed. I already couldn’t keep up with all the releases pumped out each year, but now I can’t even care. But this is exactly what WotC wanted: all the UB releases to have the super high price tags and the in-universe sets to experience the trickle effect from those releases.

Speaking of bullshit, SL bonus cards have reached a new low: there are seven () variants of the Chaos Emerald for the new Sonic drop. I’ll give them thematic points, but jfc lol.

I honestly hope they do. I'm hoping them jumping on Edge CBs only to get burned when they can't flip them for 2x what they paid sends them scurrying back to Pokémon and sports cards, but having 2 UB sets to close out the year, one with a pretty large fanbase(Spider-Man) might draw them back in again.

Honestly, cannot wait for Lorwyn Eclipsed, first set of next year and a return to a favorite setting of mine, if only for the Scarecrows.

Amen and hallelujah. Even the bonus sheet for EoE is pretty damned weak - nice art, but most of the lands on them are sub-$2.

Same. If I haven't decided to hiatus from magic again by then, might have to resurrect some variant of my Reaper King deck, if there's anything worth building from.

I remember collecting Reaper Kings for a while after that set because they were relatively cheap, had about 6 full front to back pages of them, then decided to cash out late 2010ish. Had three fouls, kinda regret that.

It seems the Sonic SLD is getting limited to 2 per person this time around.

As for the EOE bonus sheet, a reputable leaker that leaked a bunch of EOE cards before spoilers started has stated that they've seen Strip Mine pulled, and another, less reputable source claims Ancient Tomb is in.

As for the rest of the year, I'm still getting at least a Play Box and single Collector Booster for the 2 UB sets, but again, lukewarm on Spider-Man for the most part, and don't know anything about Avatar, so I'm just getting the boxes just to have trade material just in case something pops off.

Other than that, most of my spending money for this year is going towards video games and Christmas gifts.

Tomb just got spoiled for EOE bonus sheet. That's a nice one. Art isn't too terrible.

Finally getting a chance to respond to this after being MIA for a few weeks.

I kind of over spent on FF more than I thought I would so Im a little burned out. I got caught a little chancing the white rabbit with FF despite me not really being all that excited about it. On the brightside, I did manage to help Steve get his Yuna and Terra :)

EOE and SpiderMan has me excited because Space/Marvel is my jam but I def wont be going nearly as hard this time around.

I decided to give the new Gundam TCG game a try, which just released, and it's actually really good. This is the first non-MTG game I've ever tried to learn in along time.

Gundam TCG is fun. I got randomly sent the two trial decks xD but im waiting for a Mobile Suit G Gundam set first. If you like Gundam TCG you should try Shadowverse Evolved

Honestly slowing down my collection outside of sets I really want like FF or Spiderman. I won't be buying too much of ones I am not excited about cause they are pricing themselves out at this point.

I need to cut back on hobbies altogether. I’m definitely gonna step back gaming and offload a bunch of Switch/PS titles.

You're right, but that doesn't mean they won't screw up releases in the mean time.

I am a huge sci-fi nerd and was hyped for Edge of Eternities, still am, but I'm shelling out way more than I want to for the set. Thank God for Rudy

Apparently it plays very similar to all the other Bandai games (One Piece, DBS etc) but Ive never played those. It plays very similarly to Magic except that you get a separate "deck" for your "Lands" (called Resources in Gundam) that you get one every turn, damage never goes away on creatures, and there is no blocking unless your Gundam/Mech has the keyword for it. Aside from having different names, the keywords can be matched to a Magic Ability or Keyword you would understand.

It is definately similiar to other Bandai tcgs, but it feel smore "balanced" and streamlined, not to difficult, slighlty more engaging than Union Arena, but it does fall into the " just another Bandai TCG" Closer to one piece than union arena in terms of populatirty and fun, its not predicated on an IP, but im not rushing to sell my MTG for it

That sounds extremely similar to Hearthstone, actually. There's only one gundam series I care about, so I picked up singles of the handful of characters from that one from the beta release. Didn't realize the special foils were beta-exclusive, and the two I needed are hundreds to over a thousand dollars now :sob:

That's pretty disappointing honestly. It worries me when the game is living purely as a clone of a game system but skinned with an IP. Do you guys think it has any legs?

I keep getting the new Sorcery releases, though I’m not sure I’m gonna continue with it. I have enough MtG singles lying around and don’t really want to have more cards taking up space.

The artwork is still badass, though.

Agreed. I love some of the mechanics, but don't know anyone else interested in the game, so it's just not worth the investment.
The art on those cards is gorgeous, though. I've been playing around in Photoshop with reskins for magic cards to proxy.

That's been my concern, it's hard as hell to get magic players to try anything new. Sorcery has a really cool idea, but finding players is bonkers hard. I got the beta release but not much else. And yes the art is nuts.
