Topic: Bad trader alert: Chaines51

He initiated trade for my Bonfire on July 19, as of today - 8/20 I still have no cards. Communication is spotty at best, just read the thread below. I'm in Austin, he is in Richardson. I literally could have walked the 200 miles there by now and I walk slowly.

--- 7/19-7/22 we go back and forth, he wants bonfire offers up Jitte, I want unhinged land and mention he needs to ship first---

rabidmonkeys    Also I see a few other things in interested in, is there anything else in my binder u have your eye on? Secondly since you have only 1 feedback i need you to send first    22 Jul

chaines51    i can ship first, that's not a problem. also, my tradelist was/is out of date. i went through and tried to clear everything off of it that I no longer have, so if you can still even this trade up that'd be great    22 Jul
chaines51    otherwise, we'll see what we can do    22 Jul

rabidmonkeys    Do you happen to have any unhinged lands?    23 Jul

chaines51    All but islands.    24 Jul

rabidmonkeys    Perfect. I'm looking for forests and plains to round out my set. What do u value them at?    24 Jul

chaines51    $4, on average    25 Jul
chaines51    for both    25 Jul
chaines51    I only have like, 4 plains, and 7 forests    25 Jul

rabidmonkeys    g    25 Jul
rabidmonkeys    great ill take them in this trade too if you can find stuff to balance them with.    25 Jul
rabidmonkeys    i also have Zendikar full arts if you are in the market there as well.    25 Jul

--- FIVE DAYS OF NO COMMUNICATION ---

rabidmonkeys    any word on this?    30 Jul

--- SIX DAYS OF NO COMMUNICATION ---
rabidmonkeys    I need to cancel this because I'm getting a ton of interest on that bonfire, unless I hear back from you by wednesday midnight I'll be cancelling.    31 Jul

--- 2 days later, 8 days of NO COMMUNICATION, he responds ---
chaines51    alright, my bad I've been away for a couple days.    02 Aug
chaines51    umm... I don't really see anything else I need from you, but I'm willing to trade 9 of the basics, which adds up to $36 if you want to do that. I'll throw in the revenge of the hunted if you'd like.    02 Aug
chaines51    Actually, I'll even do 10, which would be 4 plains and 6 forests    02 Aug

--- I'm get home vacation, but get back to him the day i get home ---
rabidmonkeys    No worries, I just got back too. I'll do 7 forests + 4 plains and the revenge if you want to do it. I can hold on to the bonfire otherwise, it's only going up and trading down for lands is already against my better judgement. I'm assuming they are all NM?    06 Aug

--- Trade accepted 8/6 via the tool - but he doesn't send the cards ---
chaines51    That seems fine by me.    06 Aug
chaines51    and yes, they're all near mind    06 Aug
chaines51    mint*    06 Aug

--- 3  more days  NO COMMUNICATION ---
rabidmonkeys    What's going on with this? did you send on the 6th? it's been 3 days and i havent heard anything    09 Aug

--- 4  more days  NO COMMUNICATION ---
rabidmonkeys    Hello? I need to know if you've sent this.    10 Aug

--- 5 days after acceptance he responds, says he shipped 8/11 ---
chaines51    My apologies, I haven't been on in a while. I'll send them tomorrow, life got in the way    11 Aug
chaines51    Rather, today    11 Aug

--- Wants to know if I've sent, even though we've clearly talked about this  ---
chaines51    I'm curious as to whether or not you've sent your card. I'm in need of it fairly soon.    13 Aug

--- I remind him of our conversation ---
rabidmonkeys    Nope as I said on July 22, I required you to send first since you only have 1 feedback and you said not a problem.    14 Aug
chaines51    that's fine smile Forgot we ahd that conversation    14 Aug

--- The last straw, 32 days after initiation. 14 days after acceptance, 9 days after the second time he should've sent them I am still cardless ---
rabidmonkeys    I still don't have your cards, on the 6th we agreed on the trade. It's now the 20th - 2 full weeks later. You've said before you sent them, then said you would send them on August 11 (9 days ago) If your cards ever actually arrive, ill be refusing delivery and you're getting negative feedback. It never EVER takes 14 days to ship cards. especially not within texas, when you are literally only 200 miles away.     20 Aug

--- Still no cards. Aug 22 ---

BTW - He was last seen online, Aug 21. So beware. He is still ignoring my communications (+ everyone else) and won't respond. I also changed it from "sketchy" to "bad" in the title.

Re: Bad trader alert: Chaines51

LOL, so do this mean you have a Bonfire for trade now?

Re: Bad trader alert: Chaines51

Whats funny is your bonfire has slowly picked up value as the guy waited...

Re: Bad trader alert: Chaines51

Good Guy Bad Trader, waits a month so your bonfire can rise $15.

I do, but now I dunno. I cracked another one from a sealed event we did and now I have 2. So do I go for 4? Or do I dump them both for unhinged lands?

I'll trade you a bunch of ungluded/zendikar lands for them!

Re: Bad trader alert: Chaines51

Thanks, I'm only looking for Unhinged. I have plenty of unglued and more Zendikar than I can handle.

Re: Bad trader alert: Chaines51

BOOOOO!

I also have a guru land wink

Re: Bad trader alert: Chaines51

Which one? I noticed you have a FoW as well, but it's listed as a DCI promo?

Re: Bad trader alert: Chaines51

God damnit... I was trading a card for one of my friends to this same person. The first time I've had a bad trade too. I was hoping that he just was away for a while, which is why he never updated the trade. I noticed that he had a few trade going on, some of which had the other people receiving the cards. I didn't really think about having him send first because of this. Now I have to either pay my friend back or try finding the cards he wanted.

Re: Bad trader alert: Chaines51

Its these kind of people that give people the wrong idea about online trading....

If you have proof of delivery, there's always small claims court, and (if victorious) a garnishment of wages.

Filing would likely cost more than the value of the cards, but it might scare the bloke straight.

No, what you should do is file for mail fraud because that is what this is.

If you have proof you shipped the card, file mail fraud immediately.

Specifically, if you read Title 18, Section 1341 of the US Code you can see that those found guilty of mail fraud can be fined and sent to jail for up to 5 years.

There is an online form for mail fraud or you can go to your local post office and ask for help there.

This only works if you have proof of your trade (deckbox is proof) and proof that you shipped the card (tracking # works here).

Don't let scumbags like this get away.

I don't have proof though; I never used a tracking number. He can just claim that he never received the cards either.

Ugh, that's a shame.  This is why I almost only ship with delivery confirmation.

Sorry for your loss - hopefully it wasn't a huge one.

Re: Bad trader alert: Chaines51

Mods can we do something about this guy? He was online this morning as well. He is clearly stealing cards off people. I'm sure that he will just make another account, but the fact he keeps logging into his current account is just a slap in the face.

Re: Bad trader alert: Chaines51

If you want to the Post office you may be able to use the receipt as proof

Yep... as long as you sent it as a package, they probably put a tracking sticker on it, so it's in their system. It will have zip code information on it, at least... even though it won't have his exact address, that's still a good start if you have multiple people complaining about him.
