This is my first commander deck- obviously a pimped out Heavenly Inferno. I've been tweaking it for a few years and have only had 3 or 4 chances to play it even casually in a multiplayer game. First competitive play starts in a couple days- June 6, 2013. Weekly Commander league. I expect to either draw a lot of aggro for using the 'beginner' commander and having lots of fatties, or else I'll just be outclassed by players with competitive experience.
This deck is built around the style of play that me and mine have enjoyed since we started playing in 1994 - use creatures to beat on your opponent and spells to kill their creatures. Other stuff is fine as long as it doesn't ruin the fun of the game. Examples of funkillers are things like the heavy land destruction, excessive control, etc. Things that force your opponent to sit there and wait for you to kill them instead of actively participating in the game. We also avoid quick combo kills, since we play the game to enjoy it, not to see how fast we can win.
I've tried to get a good mix of mana ramp, removal, and card draw into this deck without excessively watering down the big flying creature core. There are a few cards that I'm expecting to either remove or find more similar spells, depending on how the league goes. Prime examples of this are Lightning Bolt and Disenchant. It goes against my nature to remove either of those, since they are among the original set of staple cards in their colors that almost always fit into a deck, but I don't know how much these cards are diminished by the fact that they don't exile, as so many of the newer cards do.
I'm also thinking about a Kaervek the Merciless or Rakdos, Lord of Riots deck, but I'm a little loathe to do that since all my planeswalkers have white in them.
