Notes

Someone who truly delights in the pain of others doesn't have to cut, maim, or crush the victim. The much crueler fate is the death done while never laying a finger to them! For them to feel their life slowly being chipped away while you can casually dismiss their desperate struggle to survive!

This deck is designed to take down the opponent without combat damage. Removal and forced life loss is the premise of the deck and has worked well in casual play.

early game, I can put out a Pharika's Chosen , the 1/1 deathtouch will make any early game creature hesitant. If I desire, I normally have a Sinister Possession in stock to make the opponent pay for blocking or attacking. swinging in turn 2 with a Pharika's Chosen and they can only block with that poor creature with Sinister Possession on them. of course they will sooner or later, forcing 2 more life gone from Sinister Possession and losing their creature to deathtouch...we humans are deliciously cruel creatures.

The meat of this deck is in the enchantments. contaminated grounds is an aggravating spell against any set-up. You can feel your opponents confidence sag as they understand that they will have to carve out portions of their own life to continue. Contaminated grounds also takes away dual lands and pesky Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx , screws with their mana-fixing, and even if I am up against another black deck, making them pay 2 life for the land they need is a great deal.

by turn 3 or 4 though, your victim has overcome their initial shock and hastily formulated a plan to prolong their insignificant existence. Perhaps a clever use of mana to minimize their damage from contaminated grounds to get a creature out that can destroy my underlings. Salvation. Well, I think a Stab Wound will slow them down. I find it truly delicious to hit a creature with both Stab Wound and Sinister Possession especially aggressive little punks like Deathbellow Raider .

Just in case your victim is a resourceful one, I have mixed in Bile Blight , Ultimate Price , Quag Sickness , and Asphyxiate . These will send the creatures and hopes of salvation of your victim straight to the graveyard.

the Black Oak of Odunos makes for a great wall to brush off any trifling attempts my victim puts forward to injure me. It also gives an opportunity to take out creatures who I have inflicted with Stab Wound , lowering their toughness. Just tap another creature and the Black Oak of Odunos gains some power.

Now turn 4...My Crypt Ghast hits the field, effectively doubling my mana...It's as if you can see the light in your opponents eyes fade as the soul crushing despair grips them.

We have drawn the game out long enough though...weak and weary, they have forsaken their life and watched their hopes abandon them. Bring in your end game with the hated Sanguine Bond + Gray Merchant of Asphodel combo to drain the little remaining life from your victim as they watch you gain strength from their life force.

And if this isn't enough to end their hope and you get to watch the light fade from their eyes, Corrupt and Crypt Incursion will cause life gain and loss bolstering you while you get to watch the victim waste away.

Extras that prove useful in the deck are Elixir of Immortality for life gain and protection from mill decks. Read the Bones helps me make sure I have what I need to inflict more delicious suffering, setting my deck up for the perfect hope extinguishing combos. Similarly, Underworld Connections ensures I can bring the cards to my hand when I need them to keep as many delectably tragic options open as possible.

Drown in Sorrow will make their way into the deck, just not sure what to swap out yet. Would love some suggestions. Doom Blade and Dark Betrayal can be swapped with Asphyxiate when I have a better understanding of the opponents deck. The majority of the sideboard is focused on hand control, plunging your opponent into absolute despair, leaving his hand small and weak with Duress and Mind Rot . Once they are forced to discard their most potent spells, feel free to apply pressure to the wound by playing, feeling their breathing slow as you chip away their life with Shrieking Affliction . The last card in my sideboard is for those few with fight left in them...The only time I will pick up a weapon...late game could bring the possibility of Squelching Leeches , watching their eyes make contact with yours, their fear, their...gratitude, for finally ending their misery, you bring down the hammer to end it all.

Would love some thoughts on how to punish my opponents further, so feel free to comment!

Thanks for the look! Enjoy the game!
