In addition to what TyWooOneTime wrote, I'll add that you should leave the trade open and not mark the cards received yet.  If you have not already done so, put a note in the trade chat that details what is missing. Assuming it was a simple err, when you receive the card, you can mark everything as received and close out the trade as normal.

Thanks for asking about this one.

The ability to click the quantity column headings to sort by the number in inventory/tradelist/wishlist will be restored when the next set up updates is released.

This post is intended to address some of the most common issues being raised in the feedback forum. Sebi and the team are aware of these issues, so there is no need to create a new post to report them.

As other common feedback items are identified, they will be added to this post.

*** UPDATE - 01/02/14 ***
Sebi has released version 2.2, adding foil pricing among other changes. Next up should be a timetable for API work.

+++++

*** UPDATE--ADDRESSED *** MISSING PRICING - FOILS - The 2.2 Update added foil pricing from TCGPlayer. Note that not all foil cards have pricing in the TCGPlayer data source, so Sebi will continue to look for an improved arrangement with more complete foil pricing.

+++++

MAKE INVENTORY PRIVATE OPTION
We have received numerous requests to be able to mark one's Inventory as private (i.e., not visible to the broader community).  These requests revolve around two reasons: A) many traders are repeatedly receiving trade proposals for cards in their inventory that they do not wish to trade, and B) to prevent potential thieves from targeting individuals with valuable collections.

The request is being reviewed, and the option to make Inventory private is being considered.

+++++

MISSING CARDS and/or SETS
At this time, Deckbox.org uses an API from TCGPlayer.com.  Because of this, we can only display information on sets that are included in TCGPlayer.com's API.
In addition, some cards and sets are not part of the official Wizards of the Coast Gatherer database.  If a card is not listed in that database, it will not be available in the TCGPlayer API.

+++++

INCORRECT PRICING - AVERAGE vs. MEDIAN
At this time, Deckbox.org uses an API from TCGPlayer.com. Recently, TCGPlayer started showing median prices on cards, instead of the average.  The current API pulls the TCGPlayer average price.  This explains why prices are different between this site and TCGPlayer.com. Sebi and the team area aware of the change, and are determining an appropriate course of action.

+++++

INCORRECT PRICING - CARDS WITH ACCENTED CHARACTERS
At this time, Deckbox.org uses an API from TCGPlayer.com. Some cards (e.g., Séance) do not display pricing information because the names with the accented characters do not get properly resolved through the API.  Sebi and the team are aware of this issue.

+++++

SORT BY QUANTITY IN CARD DATABASE
The ability to sort by quantity in the various columns (inventory/tradelist/wishlist) was lost in early 2013 during a major upgrade of the service.  Many requests have been received to restore this option, and it will be returning as part of the next set of updates.

+++++

COLLECTOR NUMBERS
Many have asked about adding the collector numbers for cards in the system, and to allow for searches by collector number.  Sebi and company are aware of the request.

At this time, Deckbox.org uses an API from TCGPlayer.com.  Because of this, we can only display information that is included in TCGPlayer.com's API, and collector's number is not currently an option.  Whether or not this will be included in the future has not yet been determined.

+++++

ADDITIONAL LANGUAGES
Many users have asked to have Deckbox made available in other languages.  At this time, there are no plans to  add support for additional languages in the interface or in the card databases.

+++++

PLEASE ADD TRACKING FOR _________ (Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokemon, Netrunner, etc.)
We regularly receive requests to add support for additional collectible card games (CCGs) and living card games (LCGs).  At this time, there are no plans to add support for additional CCGs or LCGs, as Sebi and the team are focused on maintaining and improving the site for the current set of supported gams.

+++++

*** UPDATE--ADDRESSED *** WANT TO FILTER TRADE OPPORTUNITIES BY __________
An update of the trade interface is planned for early 2013.  When the update is complete, there will be many new filtering options, including the ability to filter trading partners based on how active they are/when they were last online.

Those little six packs can be fun, especially when you can pick them up in the clearance trays for $0.99 (they usually are just under $2.00).

My big question now is should I sell the foil Lili, or hold on to her.  I've scanned some discussions online, and may believe she is the #2 card behind The Jace.  Some speculators think she will hit $500-600 (foil) within five years.

It's an interesting thought--one that I've had, too.  While I've had good pulls from boxes, loose packs at stores, and in blister packs, my impression is that I've gotten consistently better pulls from the blister packs, too.

I bought a single Innistrad pack while picking up some food items this morning (blister pack at a mass market retailer).  I pulled dual Liliana of the Veil--regular and foil!!!

This happened to me one other time, about a year ago, when I got a foil Ajani and a regular one in the same pack.

What have been your best pulls?

I currently have five (5) Godless Shrine available for trade.  I'm looking to trade them for some of the other dual lands I need (1st choice), or other higher-value cards on my wishlist (2nd choice).  Other cards can be added to equalize the trade value in either direction.

Here are the lands I'm seeking:

Breeding Pool x2
Stomping Ground x2
Isolated Chapel x3
Watery Grave x1
Woodland Cemetery x1
Hinterland Harbor x1
Steam Vents x1

I'll give priority to offers that are seeking two or more, since it cuts down on the number of mailings.

Currently only trading in the USA.

It sounds like filing a Bad Trade Report (BTR) may be in order.  Please review the information in this post, and then submit a BTR if it seems appropriate.

Anyone experiencing a potential bad trade should consider filing a BTR.

If you believe you have been scammed, reporting possible mail fraud may also be an option.  If numerous folks file, the post office (in the US, at least) has more information to go on (i.e., they can see a pattern).

Also, do remember that sometimes domestic mail in the US can take three weeks or more, even if it normally only takes a few days (or took only days going the other direction). I recently had a package destined for California that ended up in Boston before they turned around and shipped it to the right place.

At this time, Decks built on the site are just collections of cards by name.  They do not associate specific version information or details.  They're just deck lists with some extra perks (like seeing how many you have in your inventory).

In my opinion, the deck is a little scattered (too many one-offs) to be a serious competitor, but you do have a good start with your Stromkirk Noble, Stromkirk Captain, and Vampire Nighthawk.  I'd seriously consider Markov Blademaster, especially since it will get one +1/+1 counter for each hit on an opponent--that's one after the first strike damage step, and then one after the regular damage step.

Have you considered Blood Artist? Get a couple of those on the field and every dying creature means you go up two and your opponent goes down two.  Add a little burn and that can tip the scales in your favor very quickly.

You are already running Blood Crypts and Dragonskull Summits, even if only x3, so I would drop the gates.  Once you have that first mountain or swamp on the field, Dragonskull Summit comes into play untapped, and with the Blood Crypt you have the option of paying two life to have it untapped.  With the gates, you are simply stuck waiting until the next turn.

I don't know how the meta game plays out in your area, but around here it is too fast to rely on anything bigger than a four-drop, and even those can be tough to get into play.  Personally, I play vampire aggro and top my curve out at three. If you do that, you won't need to replace those gates, as 21 should be plenty land.  Of course, if you can pick up two or three Cavern of Souls, they will guarantee that your vampires hit the battlefield.

I'd try to narrow down the other spells you are using as well.  Work in sets of three or four of the cards you like, and go from there.  Have some instant-speed burn/removal

I noticed you don't have a sideboard set up yet.  Some I've included have been Mizzium Mortars (useful against those white weenies and other token generators), Volcanic Strength (give a creature +2/+2 and mountainwalk), and Traitorous BloodContaminated Ground is another I've used a lot lately, especially when my opponent is playing anything non-black. Once you know what you typically see at your LGS, you'll be able to make some changes to reflect what's happening there.

Good luck, and let us know how you tweak things!

Basically, one of the card slots might contain a rare (or mythic), but it could also have a common, uncommon, or a foil card.

there are only 3 ways....

1) buy cards from stores/ebay/amazon/other people

2) trade for older cards with the stock you have

3) hope someone is kind enough to GIVE you cards

older cards are going to cost more than newer cards BUT no way you can do it without one of the 3 above options.

There is a fourth way: play events and win packs; use those packs to trade for what you want.

If you do decide to buy some, ebay is perhaps your best bet--if you are patient and buy only on the cheap.  In the last two days, I got a Warren Instigator (NM) for $4 (including shipping).  I also recently picked up quantities of each Goblin Lackey and Goblin Sharpshooter via ebay.  My cost per card (shipped) was at or below half the TCGPlayer average for them.  I could turn around and sell/trade them as singles for twice what I paid for them (if I wanted to part with them).  This is especially true of the $4-5 cards.  You can often pick up playsets of four for $2-3.  Turn around and trade those, and then keep trading up. A few months back, I traded up from about $12 of cards (purchase price) I got on ebay to around $85 of chase cards and shocklands.  It took me a few weeks to do it, so that was an additional cost, but I was in no hurry, so it didn't hurt.

Of course, to do that, you need to make sure you are buying multiples (x3, x4, or larger lots) at the last minute.  I try to focus on some trusted sellers (e.g., Kid Icarus) who combine shipping.  When I have the cash to do so, I search ebay for "MTG" and a card name, and always sort by "Ending soonest". You don't always win (others are trying to snipe, too), but it has been a strategy that works well for me.

Best of luck to you!

You'll find your deck will be more consistent (and, imo, more fun to play) if you reduce the variety and try to run 3x or 4x of fewer spells.  Since you're just starting out, you may not have those full playsets (4x), but it is something to keep in mind as you crack packs or trade for other cards.  Work to identify the cards you really like (the ones that work really well), and as you pick more of them up, start swapping them in for other cards that are not working as well.

On the converse, also think about the cards that never see play, either because they require too much mana or because the games you are playing go too fast for you to get them out consistently.  You'll want to pull those cards and swap in things that you can use (or use earlier in the game).

Good luck!

Any of the Intro Packs is a great place to start.  You'll have something playable right from the start.  If you can afford to do so, pick up a couple different ones, so you can get a feel for how the different decks play.  Consider getting two that share one color, so you'll have more options for swapping cards between them.  For example, if you want to try Black/White, if you also pick up either Black/Blue or Red/White, you'll have the ability to pick from either to support the other.

Think about how you'd like your games to progress. Do you want to come on strong and fast (aggro)? Do you want to bide your time a bit and get powerful things out after turn three? Also, your title mentions B/W tokens--what kind of token creatures would you prefer? Humans? Spirits? Rats? Something else? You have a lot of directions you can go.  White has a lot of human token generation, with buffs to pump them up (e.g., Intangible Virtue).  There are also white spirits.  In black, you have Ogre Slumlord and his affinity for rats, and Pack Rat itself.

In reality, I just recommend that you start pulling some things together, get some friends together, and start playing.  You'll get a feel for what works, and what doesn't.  That will go a long way toward helping you refine what you'd like to do.

Welcome to the world of Magic: the Gathering!

Agreed.  It's particularly useful to folks making a Commander deck (where no card may have reference to colors not in the commander's colors).

Currently Sebi and company are working on a major overhaul of the trade interface.  They review this forum regularly, and will let us know if/when this feature may be added.

Sebi and crew are aware that the oracle text has changed.  They were not aware that the oracle text could/would change periodically.  They've added it to the list of issues that need to be addressed as updates are released.

I agree.  This site has saved me countless hours of hassle, and has increased both the quantity and the quality of my trades.

Thanks, Sebi, Laura, and Catnica!!!

Not to mention sets like Portal or Chronicles that use the same symbol on all rarities.  I think those are the only two with that issue, but if I could find out the rarity without having to go to the card's page, that'd be a plus.

Agreed.  I sort other peoples' collections for pay, and that would be a great boon.

No apology necessary.  With so many new folks joining on a daily basis, it only makes sense that some questions will be asked more than once.  I apologize if I came across poorly.  I just wanted to provide some answers for you.

Enjoy the site!

Sebi is working on an overhaul of the trade interface.  I believe #1 should be handled.

As to #2, pricing has been handled through the TCGPlayer API.  They've recently made changes to their API.  I'll let Sebi and company respond as to when they will be addressing those changes.

LOL--I'm right there with you.  Still, that's a nice problem to have. smile
