Okay I made a version that just changed a few cards from what you were running.

https://deckbox.org/sets/816108

What I like about is you can cast Rescue from the Underworld on your opponents turn using Sylvan Caryatid or Elvish Mystic as one of the mana to cast it and also as the sacrifice.

I tweaked your land some as well, I would consider using some Mana Confluence So you have some additional access to white mana if you make it to late game and need to hard cast Ashen Rider

I think it's a very interesting deck, and could be really fun to play.

I made some tweaks based on the idea that you had all the cards you showed in your deck, and tried not to make to many expensive changes.

I'd think about adding another Ajani or two just to give yourself a constant source of counters.  Other than that I think you'll win a few games with this depending on your local meta game.

I'm trying something a bit similar myself so I hope the strategy works. smile

I'm looking for some feed back and suggestions.  The idea is to gain life and put +1 counters on creatures, essentially make cheap creatures big.  This will be competing at FNM that is fairly competitive.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

70 cards with only 24 lands is not an ideal spell to land ratio.
I've been working on a similar idea.   I haven't tested it or gone beyond just a first build of ideas.   But feel free to take a look.

Trying to put something together for Modern that is fun to play, and won't get squashed repeatedly.  I think I have some decent synergy here, but not sure if it has to many moving peices and what might need to be dropped or added.

Thanks for you input in advance.

This isn't an Abzan deck, but uses some similar tactics.   I'm using gaining life to get more counters on creatures.  I would suggest throwing at least 1 Bow of Nylea into the mix, just because it's so versatile and can add counters to cards that don't have them or get their own.

My Deck.

I think you need to pick one or the other of the tribals.  Soldiers or Warriors.  You could then run a few Obelisk of Urd and drop the Incremental Growth .

Also you should be running 4 Abzan Charm in my opinion.  It does everything you're wanting to do.

I'd replace Murderous Cut with Hero's Downfall, and then add some removal for specific things in your side board.

Mainly you want to get your toughness above 3 to get out of Anger of the Gods range of board wipe.

Good luck and have fun playing.

I haven't picked up any Kahns cards yet, but I need a deck for the next FNM.  Been working on two, but can't decide which is better.  I'd like some feed back on them.

Both basically have the idea to ramp into big creatures.  Just kind of have hit a wall on which looks more playable.

Reaper of the Wilds is a really good card.  I think you should be main decking it.

I would say you need a bit more removal and maybe reconsider your "1 of" cards.  I'd pull both of them out and put in Reapers.

I'd also consider pulling the slivers and putting some more mana ramping in to get your high cost items out.  You have a number of cards that want mana and there are a ton of options right now to help with that.  Or leave your slivers in and consider using Manaweft Sliver to help with the ramping.

I also noticed your going to need to run more lands.  24 minimum.  Not sure what to pull out to get there, but 20 lands is not going to cut it.

Good luck and remember to have fun!

40 cards is for a limited format, such as drafting and sealed formats.

60 cards is the min for a constructed format.   Essentially what you are doing.

I'm fairly new to modern and pretty intimidated by the card pool.  I was wondering if anyone had recommendations for this deck and maybe a side board.  The current sideboard is pretty much cards I'm unsure of putting in the deck.  I've played a couple local modern tournaments with an 8 rack deck, it looks like the meta game is birthing pod heavy and pretty powerful.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

This is my idea for a BW life gain deck.  It uses gaining life to make Angel Tokens.   I'm going to be stealing a few of your ideas to help it out.  Feel free to do the same.

I'd suggest put a couple Whip of Erebos in there to give all your creatures life link.   It's only a $1 rare so fairly affordable.

8 Rack is fairly decent cheap entry level to modern too.   Above is kind of the version I'm using.  If you search wizards archives there is an article about building it for about $25.  You won't win your tournament, but you'll feel somewhat competitive.

My recommendation if you are going to your first FNM is to just ask lots of questions and learn what other people are playing and see what strategies you might like.

Your deck is going to be inconsistent due to it's multitude of one of's.  But don't let that stop you from having fun and learning.  Keep playing and buying and trading cards and you'll get the hang of it.

Works great now!  Thanks for looking into it so quickly!

When I go to the tools drop down I am finding that it disappears unless I move my mouse to the very left edge and then I can select statistics and the like.  I'm using Chrome and it has done it on various computers.

Thanks

Thanks for your input.  I had kind of come to some of the same conclusions.   So here is a Dimir deck I've been working on instead.

I don't have pack rat and don't really want them.  Other than that I'm open to any other idea.

I've been tweaking on this deck for a while and it just seems to be missing something.  It never quite performs up to my expectations, so I'm looking for some opinions.   I want to stay in the theme of using my opponents deck against them.  I don't expect it to win at FNM, but I'd like to have a decent showing.   Any advice would be appreciated.

If this is a deck idea I should abandon in standard I guess I'd like to know that as well,  but be gentle.  smile

Thanks in advance for your input.

May I suggest that you do a search in the card database that will only include cards from the format you want to build in.   You can add cards to your deck from those search results as well.

Sorry about the tone...I had feeling that was sounding more harsh than I intended, but couldn't come up with a better way to put it.
One of the beautiful things about Magic, is that everyone can come to it from different angles and there is no "right" way to play.  Just preferences.

Perhaps.  and I can see where you're coming from.  playing against other top tier decks though if you're not playing something equally good then you're doing yourself a disservice.  when in Rome and all that.

My feeling is if you just want to play a deck someone else created then perhaps there are better games for you to be playing.  I think developing your own deck is the best part of magic and encountering other peoples ideas is a lot of the fun of playing.  So when I sit down and after 3 turns and almost know what's in your hand because I've played against it a number of times it takes away the fun for me.  Are the tier 1 decks good? Yes.  Do I find them infuriating? Definitely.  They are part of the game, so I try to come up with decks like this to at least give them a mild run.

By the way I got 4th at a small FNM with it.  Only lost to a tier one black devotion deck.

Okay just decided to go with adding some blue, but went a slightly different direction than you guys were.  Going to try it at FNM tomorrow night.  I figure it will either be a great success or fall flat on it's face.   Thanks for your input, I've referred to this post often while tinkering with this deck idea.

Thanks Tywoo!  Made a few adjustments based off your suggestions.

I plan to play it at FNM.  Really what I'm looking for is any recommendations for side board or if I'm missing a key card to go with this strategy.  My local FNM is pretty competetive with a number of tier 1 decks.  I'm not looking to beat those, just want something that will run well and pull of a surprise on occasion.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Copy the deck list from wizards site and import using the card list.
