Topic: Commander Brackets, new filter: Tutors, Land Denial, card Archetypes

Today's release implements some support for the new Commander Bracket system proposed by wizards:
    https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/annou … ckets-beta

Commander decks will display now a "minimum suggested bracket", based on the criteria from wizards. I have reviewed the criteria moxfield uses for their support, and these are almost identical. There is also no "combo detection" - so that part of the analysis is completely ignored.

Part of this change also introduces a set of "tags" or "archetypes" for cards, so as to distinguish the cards relevant to this calculation - Mass Land Denial, Tutors, Extra Turn Cards and the new concept of Commander Game Changers - as defined by Wizards.

Game Changer is a separate (boolean) filter now, in the Commander filter submenu, available in all collection sets & card database. The other 3 "archetypes" are available as a filter in the "Basic Card Properties" submenu:
e.g. all tutors and extra turns: https://deckbox.org/games/mtg/cards?f=z531.2

I have called this filter Archetype / Role for now, but I'm not too happy with the naming, so any suggestions are welcome.

I would like to evolve this tagging mechanism gradually to also encompass other "external" card tags / qualifiers, but I did not yet decide on how to approach this. Many of you have requested card tags such as Ramp for example, and others, that could be useful in deckbuilding. Indeed, many users are using the "Note tags" feature in decks for this - but it's not very user-friendly or elegant feature yet.

This would need to also support user-suggestions or votes of some sort, so that the community can "Report" or "Suggest" corrections - in the spirit of the scryfall tagger - but with a much more limited scope.

How this would exactly work I'm not yet sure, but - as usual - any thoughts and feedback are happily accepted.

Re: Commander Brackets, new filter: Tutors, Land Denial, card Archetypes

Wow!  This is a great feature.  It is really interesting to get all of the relevant cards that are used for making this bracket determination.

It seems like it would be nice to turn the name for each category into links that would search for all of the cards in that category (which you could of course filter later as normal).

It would also be nice to add a user-settable field for the commander bracket in case the person disagrees with your suggestion, though keep the suggestion there.

Second that this is really great.
Also just wanted to let you know that the spotlight series terror of the peaks is missing.

Thanks for everything!

This is a great new feature. Thank you!

This is an unrelated question, but I've always wondered if the "Format (legal )" check should also check if the proper number of cards are in the deck or if that should be a different check.

For example, I am building this deck https://deckbox.org/sets/3712182, which only has 83 cards in it, but it displays as legal for commander. If I add a second copy of a card like Acidic Slime it shows the deck as invalid.

I was hoping this would be implemented eventually. Thanks for the add!

How would you like us to suggest recommendations on card tags?

As for your archetype/role field, perhaps something like "Aspect" as most of the 'roles' for cards can be subjective as they may fit many different roles, in that way you could say a card has multiple aspects and add them like the tag feature you are talking about.

There is another "warning" icon below next to the number of cards in the main deck section, on hover it should say "incomplete". I agree this is somwhat confusingly separately placed from the legal thing. I will think about presenting this in a nicer way.

Another great update, can't sing your praises enough. Slowly but surely I'm converting my whole playgroup to deckbox, and these always help my case!

One question regarding the brackets, and this may simply be a product of my usage, but would love any suggestions of solutions from the community:
For my commander decks, I use the sideboard section as a "maybeboard" of cards I own, that are not in the 100. I use the scratchpad to track potential upgrades for the decks. Pretty minor inconvenience, but currently the bracket calculator seems to include the sideboard. Is there, or could there be, a way to make that calculator ignore the sideboard (Since there are no sideboards in the format anyway). And if not, does anyone have a suggestion for a better way to organize my lists?

Ahh, now I see it! I must admit in the many years of using this site I have never once noticed that incomplete icon! From a UX/UI perspective, I think it is because it is inline with " Main Deck " and I have been trained on the site to expect to look at the top of the page near the Format indicator for that type of information.

Thanks for adding this! I had started using tags to track the game changers in my decks.

Hi! Just wanted to let you know that the special guests for Dragonstorm (fetches) don't seem to be available.
