Uhh right now, as in this exact moment, i have a literal 0$-1$ budget for cards. got fired from my job the other day; hopefully me and my fiancee are going to get hired onto places soon and i'll have more money for the 20-30$ ones. Like I said, anything is helpful, so ig what i'm saying is, i don't really care how expensive the card is, i'll keep it in mind for when i have the money for it.

https://deckbox.org/sets/782352 <--- my list.

Hey guys, I'm back to annoy the hell outta y'all here on the DB forums with a more-than-likely failed Mardu Aggro attempt. I haven't played in a long while and don't have any money for new cards other than a booster here and there. Feel free to give me hints, tips and any criticism you want about how bad this deck is, as mine normally are. Thanks and appreciate any help given!

Would you be able to refine those two lists as well as give me a list for a sultai control and a sultai midrange/aggro?

(7 replies, posted in Decks and Deckbuilding)

Now how would you build the deck if you we're going to make it midrange? I'm not the greatest at deck building which means my lists generally need help and one of my friends won't touch this list cos he doesn't play those colors.. Not that I don't understand or like your advice on if I were to stay aggro, just curious.

I was trying to toe the line because Mardu seems like a high aggro low midrange clan to me, though the speed vs cunning duel deck makes it seem aggro, so ig I should go the aggro route. What are your suggestions? Though I do have a r/w aggro build that's more white weenie splash red that does okay with Iroas. I was simply building a list from what I saw, and idk it's more home brew and there really isn't a tourney unless I wanna find a way to get two hours away for one store or 20 miles away for the other.

Managed to get 2 Brimaz, King of Oreskos and 4 Precinct Captains from the friend I traded, and found my 4 Brave the Elements as well. I don't have Fiendslayer Paladins anymore, and I took Madcap Skills out of the SB and replaced with Ajani's Presence. Until I get those Precinct Captains as he didn't have them on him, I have the 2 Brimaz, King of Oreskos and 2 Gift of Orzhovas MB, seeing as I didn't know what to put there until then. Also replaced Gods Willing with Brave the Elements and am toying with idea of putting in 3 Wojek Halberdiers seeing as they're a 3/2 for 2 that gets first strike. Forgot to see about a Hall of Triumph and Spear of Heliod so those are still at one each, though I'm not sure what I would take out for the Wojek Halberdiers, if they should go in at all. The Wojek Halberdiers are out of the deck, and I dropped Daring Skyjek down to 3 instead of 4 to make room for the 4 Precinct Captains. Preboard, it seems to do okay, but post-board, it seems to do wonderful, I generally side out the 4 Boros Elites and the 3 Daring Skyjeks as well as one Soldier of the Pantheon and one Brave the Elements in favor of (generally) 3 Mizzium Mortars, 3 Gift of Orzhova and 3 Banish Light most games and it seemed to do well. I didn't side in the Ajani's Presence or Deicide unless I saw reason for it, which I didn't really see except one or two games.

Okay yea that's true enough. I'm trying to see if I can't get a Brimaz, King of Oreskos or two & some Precinct Captains by trading away what I have left of junk rares & commons/uncommons from a friend of mine. Might see about those two as well, but at this point I'm getting unsure as to what I should take out of the deck to make everything fit, esp. since I have no room in SB now, until RTR rotates out of standard, though unless I get a job, idt I'll be caring about standard over non-standard.

1) I don't have Brimaz nor do I have the trade for him.
2) I would run Brave the Elements but I don't know where mine disappeared to.
3) Hall & Spear are both legendary.
4) Ethereal is actually really good if you take the time to look, considering I do in fact have A) Spear, B) Iroas, C) Eidolon of Countless Battles but I get your point.
5) Banishing Light is in the Sideboard considering this is supposed to be an aggro deck and turns into a midrangish aggro control thing post-board.

I think I'm going to take out Madcap Skils and Side 3 Fiendslayer Paladins, leaving the 4th to the side and replace them with 4 Precinct Captains, but I'm not entirely sure. Still trying to track down 1 Sacred Foundry (though not necessary i don't think), and if Boros Charm, Iroas, God of Victory and Mizzium Mortars weren't so good I'd be tempted to cut red entirely and just leave it mono white.

Well it's more of I want to see if this works or if it bombs, because in my head (seeing as Prophets, Coursers and Elvish Mystics are also creatures) this seems like it will work very well because I'm basically taking most of my Simic and using it as the base for this Bant Control idea I had after Ajani got spoiled yesterday. Because if it works, then it might start doing well in Standard (at least on an FNM level, I'm not good enough to build decks that will win even 1 round at a Grand Prix) but criticism is helpful, no matter how it sounds like it's being given.

This is a deck idea I threw together after Ajani, Mentor of Heroes was spoiled. It's still in the works (plus some cards aren't even released for it yet) but I would like to get opinions on it (as well as how to fix the mana, even though there is ramp to help a bit.)

2 Ajani(3GW), 2 kiora(2GU), 2 godsend(1WW), 3 cyclonic rift(1U), 3 prophets(3GU), 3 coursers(1GG), 4 dissolve(1UU), 3 plasm capture(GGUU), 2 elspeth(4WW), 4 elvish mystics(G), 3 sylvan caryatids(1G), 3 sphinx's rev(XWUU), 3 supreme verd(1WWU), 3 d-sphere(1WU)

3 island, 6 forest, 3 plains, 4 temple of mystery, 4 temple of plenty

EDIT: Decided to remove the Sage of Heroes and Spear of Heliods

EDIT: Slapped the deck (Minus the Ajanis and Godsends) together here: http://deckbox.org/sets/658077

http://deckbox.org/sets/643269 <--- Mono Red

http://deckbox.org/sets/628488 <--- Simic

Just wanted to see what y'all think of what happened to these two decks that I previously posted about. A friend of mine actually traded for an entire red deck to basically rebuild mine, and then Simic got rebuilt after selling a few cards for store credit. Sadly, I only have the one Biomancer as I'm an idiot and didn't pick up a second one; instead I picked up an M14 pack (as well as traded an Elspeth for a Chandra without double checking prices.)

I would be using Young Pyromancer but I don't have any right now, but I am gonna be looking around to see if I can't get them in trade, and I'm also going to get a playset of Satyr Firedancer as well as a playset of Molten Birth and one or two more Purphoros, God of the Forge so it'd be easier to get him off top-decking and one of my friends also told me I should get Boros Reckoner as well, but those are expensive.

http://deckbox.org/sets/643269 <-- decklist.

So, I managed to get in on a draft last night, and here's what i was using: 2 two-headed cerberus, 2 impetuous sunchaser, 2 fall of the hammer, 2 cyclops of one-eyed pass, 2 ill-tempered cyclops, 1 bolt of keranos, 2 ordeal of purphoros, 1 purphoros, god of the forge, 2 lightning strike, 1 rage of purphoros, 1 rise to the challenge, 1 spearpoint oread,  1 nyxborn rollicker, 1 satyr rambler, 1 magma jet, 1 portent of betrayal and 17 mountains.

What I want to know is what would make it better (other than Satyr Firedancers)? I'm already wanting to add 1 or 2 more Purphoros, God of the Forge and I'm thinking of taking out the Spearpoint Oread for Dragon Mantle or waiting to do that until i get the Satyr Firedancers.

I actually managed to place 5th with the draft list, mainly because my first 2 rounds were against people who were getting better draws and not so mana screwed, although at times, i was getting mana flooded and burn screwed.

So this is a fairly decent simic deck that one of my friend's helped me together after i pulled a Kiora, the Crashing Wave during a triple born draft on Games Day at the card shop I went to, its been modified several times already but I wanna know if there's anyway to speed it up or make it better in anyway, I'm currently on the hunt for another Fathom Mage, 2 more Prophets and a couple other pieces (like maybe Kiora's Follower either instead of or with the Voyaging Satyrs). Kiora herself is a backup card if everything else doesn't get drawn soon enough to kill the opponent. again, just looking for advice on how to make it better/quicker or if its good 'nuff as is. Haven't played it in a standard tourney yet, but I might tomorrow night.

I'd pull out the Viridian Shaman, Gift of Orzhova and swap out Cancel for Counterspell.

It's not necessarily supposed to be built for tourney, I don't make decks like that. But the Gift of Orzhova was in there because I forgot I was trying to find a way to fit in Voracious Wurm and basically make it a "Hey, look at my big creatures and the amount of life I just gained," kinda stupid thing. But I completely understand what you mean.

Edit: After some thinking, this is what I came up with: http://deckbox.org/sets/640308? but now its almost 80 cards and I'm not sure what to take out.

So, my brain came up with a stupid idea. It happened when one of my friends mentioned a combo he pulled off on MTGO a few minutes ago, but nevertheless, its a stupid idea. The whole basis is for it to be mono green elves to ramp into Primordial & Kalonian Hydras, splashing in white for Gift of Orzhova (or black, doesn't matter) and blue for counters and control.

http://deckbox.org/sets/640308 <-- That's what I have so far.

Sigarda, Host of Herons adds a nice bit of control as she keeps your creatures from being countered, and the Armageddon won't necessarily screw the deck over seeing as eventually the point is to have its mana basis based on elves, using Eternal Witness if against a deck that likes killing my creatures through Doomblade and other various kill spells, and Nylea, God of the Hunt is in there for the trample. However, Sword of Light and Shadow is also in there for the same reason as Eternal Witness. The problem now is, what to do to get it down to 60 cards, and what should the land basis consist of? Obviously I figured the dual lands seeing as its technically Bant, although the other two are just splashed in, so maybe change the dual lands out for shocklands or guildgates? I mean, it could also go so far as to drop all the land down to basic land and just use Evolving Wilds and Terramorphic Expanse to land search if necessary.

Have you seen the Blank foil card proxy thing? Where you strip the art off a foil common then print out the new art on acetate sheeting to put in the sleeve? Its pretty nifty way of doing nice looking proxies.

Hmm I don't know. Don't think so. One of my friends is sposda be finding out if a print shop somewhere near them can do the card art for some/all the cards we need proxied for our decks.

Yea I know, that's the only problem. I don't know, still not entirely sure what I'm doing with this deck. The person who suggested I look into legacy decks, if only for the sake of play-testing his properly, said it might work okay, but I'm not sure. In theory it looks like it'll run okay, but nobody knows until its actually put to the test.

The cataclysms are in there mostly in case my opponent has a better board state than I do and also as a slight control element. Plus if I keep Eternal Witness on standby to get back something I needed that got wiped with Cataclysm or Wrath of God as well as with Sword of Light and Shadow as well as find a way to make my stuff indestructible, if only for the turn I use the Cataclysm or Wrath of God, then it would allow me to win in some cases.

So what would you think of throwing in a Linvala, Keeper of Silence?

49

(4 replies, posted in Decks and Deckbuilding)

So I know I've posted a couple topics already and within a couple days, but I really want to know what people think. I looked at a few Angel Legacy decks on Top 8 and decided to try and combine bits and pieces, eventually I narrowed it down to G/W and then I decided I was going to try and add in Elves.

http://deckbox.org/sets/638506 <-- decklist.

I'm trying to make it so the Elves help mana ramp into Big angels but I want littler things and so on as fodder until those big things (Like Avacyn, Angel of Hope can come out,) as with the other two decks I've posted here, any help and suggestions are welcome, just don't be rude about it. I think it's a nice enough deck as it is and a nice idea, but I still feel like there's something missing. Maybe some giant nasty creature I should be trying to ramp into other than Avacyn, Sigarda, Host of Herons and Gabriel Angelfire? Like maybe Primordial Hydra or a Giant Adephage?

For spell countering, I think Thassa's Rebuff would fit really well considering it forces them to pay X where X is devotion to blue, and in a mono blue deck... That could add up fast, but I would also have stuff like Nullify and Dissolve in as well and maybe Negate.
