Given some time to mull over the awesome potential of this project, I think I may be able to offer some ideas that would add great value.

I said it before, but I'll say it again: i really appreciate your feedback, keep it coming, be it positive or negative! smile

First of which is a decklisting function that automatically checks your deck for legality in common gameplay formats. Often when I build (I've been in magic a while), I just start pulling cards to build around a specific synergy. Often, after I've wrecked the kitchen table and gotten in trouble with the wife, I find out that the deck is not extended/vintage/legacy/TwoHeadedGiant legal due to one card or another.

Good idea, and it wasn't even on my list, I overlooked this one. It's on the list now, and hopefully there's going to be no more trouble with the kitchen table, if you use the website to build the deck tongue

Next, I've noticed that our profile pages bear a notable resembalance to facebook. I am not suggesting this so that deckbox becomes face book for TCG nerds, but it would be nice to provide visitors to my profile with a little more about myself and my history with MtG.

This is coming really soon, as I am adding a 'bio' / 'description' user property along with the 'trade interface' changes.

TheShaman wrote:

Also, I'd like to be able to include some notes with the decks I construct. Perhaps even further than that, enable visitors/friends to leave comments and give feedback about the deck inside the profile.

Notes yes, we can have that, as I want to add the ability to add notes to cards also.
Commenting is a bit tricky (as is 'deck rating' for example). This is because the decks are volatile. Someone can leave an insightful comment about your deck, and 2 days later you can totally change the deck contents. Then the comment will just be useless and confusing....
But commenting is definitely important, and I'll have to work something out in the future.

TheShaman wrote:

Lastly (for now smile ), if it would be easy to implement, I'd like to flag a deck as the one/ones I'm playing right now, for say FNM, so that others will be able to see this in my profile. For me, this feature would indicate which decks I should leave comments for in other people's profiles. It would also be nice to flag a deck as my current FNM/Competitive build, a deck I have constructed for Casual, or as a conceptual list, because it would guide feedback about that deck differently for each one, and aid people in searching for the correct play level deck (@ The person with the Baneslayer Angel that needs a deck for it).

This is also something i need to think about a bit. A friend also asked me about "folders" or "labels" for decks... so that you can organize them if you get to the point where you have too many. The tagging thing you ask for is also related to this....
So this issue is on the TODO list as well... i'm still considering how to make it.

But... all these features come after the trade interface which is now in the works. I hope that's going to be available sooner rather than later... but the wait is going to be worth it, cause it's going to rock tongue

OK, after using this site for a day, and getting familiar with the basics, I thought I'd leave my feedback all together...

Wow you guys, thanks a lot for your feedback! your support and attention is a big motivation for me smile
Also, I might not respond to all the requests or posts, but be sure I make a note of all of them, and will address each one as I have time.

2)  The indicators in a decklist showing which cards I don't have is nice.  Even better might be one to show I don't even have the card, and another to show I don't have enough.
2)  Instant-add all cards from a deck into my wishlist.   Perhaps I've copied a deck from someone else, or entered my own - and if I don't have all the cards for that deck, it would be great to be able to click once and add them to the wishlist instead of having to do it manually.

I thought of combining these 2 suggestions smile :
  - when you have enough cards in inventory PLUS wishlist, display an orange 'warning' icon
  - when you don't have enough in inventory PLUS wishlist, display the red 'error' icon that we have now
I'll also make the 'add missing to wishlist' button you mention.

evilangela wrote:

1)  I would like to see the individual card pages show my own info, and let me even edit it.  When I view the page for a card, I want it to show my inventory/tradelist/wishlist counts, and even let me change them from there.  It might also be nice to list the decks of mine that card is in.

Good idea, i'm putting this one on the list.

evilangela wrote:

6)  Better handling of "unusual" card formats - for example, the B.F.M. from Unglued is two cards, and treated like one here.  And the split cards such as "Stand/Deliver" aren't handled well either.
8)  Improve handling of "extended" characters in card names.  Such as AEther being able to be entered with AE instead of requiring Æ.

Yep, I know about these, and I want to fix them, but for the time being I'd rather give the little time I have to "bigger" features. But I'll get to this at some point. smile

evilangela wrote:

7)  Might be fun to have the profile page have a separate section for "recent changes" in regards to trade opportunities.  I'd like to have something to draw my attention specifically if, say, someone just recently added a Sensei's Divining Top to their tradelist, instead of having to go and either look at everyone on my trade opportunity list, or select that specific card from my wishlist.

This might get tricky, if there are going to be many users on the site, as the 'recent' thing would change a lot and be confusing. But... maybe I could do something like that that would only look for cards you need that have been added by your friends.... That might work i think...

evilangela wrote:

Or the fact that it appears the card image can't be shown for Ghazban Ogre.

Oops, haven't noticed that. It should be fixed now.

I'm not so sure about csv... as it's not a "strict" format (i.e. one site might export in one way, another site in another way, and it would be difficult for me to keep track of all of these).

But I have seen some sites let you export in formats used by other software (like for MTGO, Magic Workstation or Apprentice). I'm considering adding a 'file import' option on the import page for those.

A workaround for the csv issue would be an information / help page with the exact steps to be taken to convert the csv to a correct text file format for import.

I'm not sure... I'll think about this (i'm postponing features at the moment as I'd like to finish the trade interface first). But I'm duly noting all your requests and observations smile

Thanks!

I've been thinking about this since a friend told me about the 'goldfishing' testing technique (http://www.carthain.com/content/view/6/9/). But... as with most very cool stuff... it's not very easy to implement tongue

But not all hope is lost, as I have a friend who wanted to implement something like this as a graduation thesis. So if that takes off... we'll see about integrating it with deckbox. I'll let you know in the 'Upcoming features' thread when this thing goes into some kind of planning phase smile

Yep, this is another thing that I've thought about at length.

I know some people would like to specify edition, printing, condition, foiled etc for cards in tradelists and wishlists. The problem is I have not found an easy and straightforward way to implement that. I've tried a couple of times but this feature seems to clutter the interface and make it a drag for those people that DON'T need to specify these things.

I still have not abandoned this... but I'm not sure how to do it. Maybe in the mean time (until I find a decent solution) I'll add the capability to set notes on cards (and also to filter a set by searching in the note text).
This compromise / temporary solution would mean you could specify manually what's foiled, what you borrowed to your friends, or mini info bits like this.

Would be nice to have a synchronize feature for inventory and trade lists. So if i would update the inventory over time, i could just press synch and get my trade list updated.

You mean something like: You have 2 Ponder in your Inventory and 2 in your tradelist; then you remove 1 Ponder from inventory, now you have 1 in Inventory, 2 in Tradelist; so you'd want the 'synchronize' button to remove 1 from your tradelist as well?

alext wrote:

Also when i add cards from inventory to trade, i do this one by one. I;d like to just add them all to trade and then go to trade and change the quantity by hand instead of adding them one by one from inventory...but this is just me smile

Hmm... might be better. I think I just thought it confortable to add 1 and then change it by hand to whatever the number is.
But you might have a point. I suppose in general there are 2 frequent use cases:
  1. You have X cards of some type and you don't need any of them, so Add all to tradelist makes sense.
  2. You have X cards of some type and you need 4 of them, so something like Add excess to tradelist makes sense. Sergiu also suggested something like the latter - a button that would add all cards that you have more than 4 of in your tradelist (smth like Trade excess, i think there's something similar in MTGO)

alext wrote:

Why not enforce the check if you have enough cards in your inventory to add in trade, it's just a warning right now. Wouldnt make sense to add cards to trade without having them in inventory. This way you can just add them from inventory and wont need the add in the trades screen. But i guess there;s a reason behind this smile

Yeah... this is a larger discussion. I went back and forth with this issue... and it's definitely on my "to think about this" list. I'll be reconsidering this while implementing the 'trade interface' feature.

Hi,

I know it's still under construction but if i go to my profile i only see me so there are two problems here:

1. Am i the only one who added a whish list by now? smile

Well, yeah, as there are only a handful of users, it seems nobody has in their tradelist the cards you have in your wishlist.

alext wrote:

2. What's the use to see me as a trading oportunity, somehow i never have the cards i need ! smile

This happens because you have Scourglass both in your wishlist AND in your tradelist.
It's still a bug of course, you should not see yourself as a trade partner. I just didn't think of this special case when I made it smile It will be fixed later today.

P.S. There was also a problem when people who haven't set their city visited a card's page. That should be already fixed (as of 10 minutes ago)

Good idea.

I thought about some kind of "deck search", a way to find decks by several criteria... like colors and some cards they contain etc. So maybe not on the card page, as stuff can get a bit cluttered there; maybe a different section altogether, that could be just linked from the card page.

Consider it on the 'todo' list. Maybe it's going to go to the 'Upcoming features' thread after the trade stuff.

Yep, thanks for the notice. It's a glitch I introduced on monday with the 'trade opportunities' stuff.

It's fixed now, so everybody can go ahead and copy my awesome decks tongue

Maybe we should have 2 more sections, Magic the Gathering and WOW where we can discuss rules, decks, u know.. stuff related to magic and wow :-)

One problem with many forum sections is that we will need moderators.
For now it's fine if this is just a feedback/announcements forum. People will tend to discuss game-related issues on the official/established forums anyway.

But it's been duly noted, and we'll probably revisit this issue at some point in the future wink

Major upcoming features

  1. Better display of card prices (taking edition into consideration)

  2. Consolidating information on trade feedback and disputes. Make user feedback much more proeminent

  3. Tagging / subsets in inventory

  4. Deck history and rating

  5. Mobile interface

Tagging / subsets in inventory

Originally requested by TheShaman, quite a while back. Postponed by me quite a few times because other stuff got in the way, and because I was not sure how to implement it. The idea is that many serious collectors have organized their cards into sub-collections, be it split on blocks, formats, or whatever other criteria, and it only makes sense that one should be able to do this with their inventory. Discussion here: http://deckbox.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=67.

Mobile interface

No more printing tradelists or wishlists to take with you to FNM or your local store! Deckbox lists will be on your phone tongue

There's a bunch of stuff I still need to do before starting on the Trade interface. But in the mean time I added some features that help with finding trading opportunities.

For one, all card pages now list the people that have the respective card in their Tradelist or Inventory. To see what I mean check out Malfegor.

Also, your profile page now shows a list of users that you can trade with. When you visit their profile page you will be shown a list of cards that you and that user can trade (i.e. cards you have in your wishlist and the other user has in his tradelist, and vice-versa).

So.. happy trading!

Lots of love for decks lately. Now you have a Statistics page, showing the mana curve and a sample hand generator. Here's - for example - the statistics page of my R/B Goblins deck

If you like a deck you see in someone's deckbox, or you want to create a similar deck to something you have, you can now Copy it, and go from there.

I've also received requests for deck privacy. Some people don't want to show the whole world what they are playing. So here it is. Decks you create are public by default, but you can set them to private (so that noone can see them), or password protected (so that you can give the password to whoever you want).

Cheers!
