Are you still looking for any of those cards, and does your triple value offer still stand? I see you have a Chandra on your want list...

Have one or more copies of Vigilante Justice on the battlefield, one Fiend Hunter on the field, and two in your hand.  Play the second and third Fiend Hunter, and use its flicker ability to start cycling through each of the other Fiend Hunters in turn.

Vigilante Justice (VJ) is on the field
Fiend Hunter 1 (FH1) is on the field

Fiend Hunter 2 (FH2) enters the battlefied, targeting FH1.The creature previously exiled by FH1 enters the battlefield. If human, VJ deals one damage to target opponent.

Fiend Hunter 3 (FH3) enters the battlefield (targeting FH2). FH1 returns to the battlefield (targeting FH3). VJ deals one damage. FH2 returns to the battlefield (targeting FH1). VJ deals one damage...AND THIS BABY SPINS!

Keep cycling them until the opponent bleeds out.

Even my son who loves to boast of his 50+ life white deck would be annihilated by this combo.

Having some sort of counterspell would be useful, or, better yet, start with a Grand Abolisher on the field to keep your opponent from casting during your turn.

***UPDATE*** It works, but only got it rolling twice in a night of play testing.  It looks like it will be better suited for casual play.

Would it be possible to remove the upper limit from the check for Standard format in MTG decks? Decks larger than 70 cards are legal.

Heck, there's even a card (Battle of Wits) that makes having 200 cards in your library a win condition.  Shuffling that puppy would be a pain, but still legal.

I know many competitive players like to keep their decks at (or very near) 60 cards.  Perhaps the deck listings could put the total number of cards in parenthesis behind each deck, to let people know how many cards they contain.

E.g., Blue Green Mill (75)

I think you could probably get more use out of Jace's Erasure by including a couple other draw effects, or possibly cut them for something else.  Don't get me wrong, Erasure can be an awesome card if you use it right; I know a guy who runs a Pauper deck with it as his only win condition, but he has tons of card draw.

Some additional draw options could include:
Trading Post - This would actually give some additional usefulness to any extra Sands of Delirium you have, since anything after the first is useless and you have four.  Play an extra Sands, sac it, draw a card.  It would also allow you to get back any of your artifacts that they happen to destroy, or reuse a Tormod's Crypt.

Staff of Nin - You already have the ramp to easily get it out early in the game.  Might as well get some extra card draw and some easy pings out of it.

Soul of the Harvest - Again, you have the ramp, and with so many little guys to cast this can be some great card advantage.

I gotta run at the moment, but I can come back later with some more ideas.

I follow your ideas, and they sound good to me.  I'll try some of these, and welcome any further feedback (from you or others).

I've had a bit of a love/hate relationship with basic land. I love seeing the different artwork in many of the editions, but from opening so many boosters, Intro packs, Fat Packs, and other product I have accumulated far more than is useful (as a player).

So, as a player, I've stopped opening those land packs in the Fat Packs and have simply sleeved 30 of each type of basic land.  I insert the requisite quantity into whatever deck I'm playing at the moment.  It reduces the number of playable sleeves I need to keep, and it simplifies what I do with new land that comes in: it goes into a box, whether singles or packaged lots from Fat Packs, etc.  The foils, and any full-art land go right into my trade binder.

As a collector, however, I really want to collect full sets of land from each block. If you were collecting land,

1.  How many of each variant would you keep? One? Four? More?

2.  How would you store them? I'm assuming penny sleeves would be in order, or is even that overkill? After that, just sort them and store them in boxes?

3.  Is there any evidence that full block collections have more or less value based on whether or not they have a full quantity of the block's basic lands?

I'm sure I'm not the only one who has thought about this.  With an ever-growing collection and a value that keeps climbing, I've been wondering about special policies or riders to cover my collection.  Currently, my cards are covered by my homeowner's policy--both when home and at events (personal property, off-premise)--but the deductible on my homeowner's policy is too high to be practical.

I'm wondering if there are any policies geared specifically to the collector's market.  Does anyone have one? Anyone know of an insurance company that offers such policies?

Hi!

When in your profile build a deck you can see the number of every card required for the deck (Count in this deck), "Wishlist count" and your total of this card (Inventory count).

But when have, for example, 10 fetchlands in total and uses a playset in one deck and another playset (8 in total) for another deck you can't know if you have 2 remain cards "available" for a third deck.

This becomes a major problem when have a great collection (or when you prefer build decks without switch cards/sleeves because play with a important number of decks with friends and don't have the time for it).

My proposal can go from two points with same results:

A) Add one new column to the right of "Inventory Count" called "Inventory available" plus a option for every deck called "Deck in use" (so if you have 3 cards "A" in inventory list and one in a "deck in use" the "Inventory Available" is 3 - 1 = 2).

Or

B) The option of "Deck in use" and the same new column but called "Cards in use".

The result is the same but I think the B) option requires touch less the logic of SQL DDBB...

In reality, will most people own enough cards to put the playset in each deck, or will they have one playset that gets moved from deck to deck as it is needed?  I have a couple of decks that use my Predator Ooze, another couple that use my Chandra, the Firebrand, and many others that have configurations in common (with Cavern of Souls, Sublime Angel, and others).

Rather than sink extra into having multiple playsets (except of commons/uncommons, which are acquired incidentally along the way), I just move them between.  When I take cards out of one deck, I put a sticky note on a rules/filler card and place it in the deck box, so I know what I took out.

Before the averages prices here got skewed with the multiple editions getting calculated in the average, I used to look at things this way: the "Low" price was (and is) a fair estimate of what I might expect were I to sell a collection for cash, and the "Average" price was the value I used for the insurance purposes (cover the collection for that amount--roughly what I'd need to lay out if I wanted to buy all of them again).

The "High" value was I figure most people think I spent on my collection.  wink

Here's another I've been tweaking since reviewing some of the comments here.  I think this one might surprise an opponent in the first hand, as it can start looking like a typical green ramp.  Let me know what you think, and how you think it could be improved.

http://deckbox.org/sets/214007

4 Evolving Wilds
10 Forest
4 Hinterland Harbor
6 Island
2 Tormod's Crypt
4 Arbor Elf
2 Fog
4 Llanowar Elves
4 Thought Scour
3 Jace's Erasure
3 Mind Sculpt
4 Elvish Archdruid
4 Predator Ooze
4 Sands of Delirium
4 Trepanation Blade
2 Gilded Lotus

In play testing, it has worked, but can have trouble against very fast decks with lots of token generation.  Against most other decks, it often keeps desired cards out of the opponent's hand.  Wins have been (perhaps not surprisingly) about 60/40 damage/mill out.  The Trepanation Blade on Predator Ooze can be a productive combination, but I often find myself wanting to keep the oozes as blockers.  Perhaps something that confers Vigilance?

So the only things in Zendikar that are worth anything are the fetch lands, Iona and full art lands.  If I'm being honest though, the Full Art Lands are like a buck a peice for the normal version and 8-12 for the foil.  Granted you will get a bunch of free full art lands automatically with the purchase, I don't think it's worth 150$.  Packs are roughly 4-5 dollars wherever you look.

Looking at Ebay, I saw one Fat Pack go for $150, but sealed booster boxes are going for 110-120/ea.  Entirely up to you, but if I were given a choice, I'd spend 120$ on a box way before spending 150$ on a Fat Pack.

That's a good point.  I hadn't even thought about booster boxes on eBay.  Thanks!

It would be helpful if a New Rotation filter were added to the inventory search filters so that during these periods of upheaval, players could easily see which cards they currently own to build rotation safe standard decks.

While it is not a one-button solution, you can filter things to do just what you want to do.

From your Inventory page,

1.  Click Search & Filter.
2.  Click the More filters drop down menu.
3.  Select Edition.
4.  Ensure the Edition criteria is active (checked) and set to is one of.
5.  In the Edition drop down menu, click to select each edition that will remain in Standard.

Example: As of this writing (August, 2012), I would select: Magic 2013, Avacyn Restored, Dark Ascension, and Innistrad.

6.  After the Editions are selected, click Done and Apply Filters, or simply click Apply Filters.

That will show you everything in your inventory that will remain in the current Standard format as the old blocks rotate out.

You can similarly use filters on the full card database to identify which cards you are missing in that sub-set of editions (to flag your Tradelist).

Thanks for the great feedback.

I did a bit more play testing this evening against massive mono green, infect, mill, werewolves (that dang Moonmist!), and RW Champion of the Parish variants, including one with Doomed Traveler and War Falcon.  It did well overall.  Against mill, I was still able to get enough cards in hand and on the field to wrap it up (starting with Krenko in hand helped!).

Against fliers, I sideboarded in two Thunderbolt and two Plummet (replacing two Mogg Flunkies and two Elvish Archdruid), and the deck held pretty well (with the Pillar of Flame and Goblin Arsonist as other utility damage dealers.  I will consider removing one Krenko.  I'm going to make some additional tweaks and will post the updated configuration.

I'll also let you know how she plays at FNM.  So far, I've had numerous early game wins.

BTW--with the Abundant Growth in play, I've even thought about subbing in some Intangible Virtue, to give my tokens a boost.

I actually think it is a very interesting idea.

A neat addition might be Beast Within.  Would allow you to deal with some larger threats quickly, like Planeswalkers, but once you have a Parallel Lives or two out you can then easily use it on your own creature tokens or Goblin Arsonist as well to give yourself a huge mass of larger creatures.

Also, Craterhoof Behemoth could do some huge damage in this deck.  Either that or something else that can give some of your creatures trample or evasion to let them definitely get through.

What would you recommend cutting to fit in one or both of those?

That's where I struggle the most--figuring out what to cut. I get something that works fairly well, but the more I tweak it, the worse it tends to play.

Okay,  my sons thought I was nuts for trying green ramp with Krenko, Mob Boss and his goblin buddies, but in play testing so far, this one has done quite well against their various decks.  Please take a look and let me know what you think, or if you have any suggestions.  I do realize that Goblin Chieftain will rotate out of standard in a couple of months, but thought it might be a fun play for a few FNMs between now and then.

I ramp to get Parallel Lives out and then let Krenko (and, sometimes, Garruk) do his thing.

Note, I do plan to replace the Abundant Growths with Rootbound Crags as I get them.

12 Forest
6 Mountain
1 Rootbound Crag
3 Abundant Growth
4 Arbor Elf
4 Goblin Arsonist
4 Llanowar Elves
2 Pillar of Flame
4 Krenko's Command
4 Mogg Flunkies
4 Elvish Archdruid
4 Goblin Chieftain
2 Garruk Relentless
4 Krenko, Mob Boss
4 Parallel Lives
1 Garruk, Primal Hunter
1 Warstorm Surge

I'm still working on the sideboard, but plan to include Naturalize, Thunderbolt, and other theme specific answers.

I've recently made a change to how I ship.  I'm still using penny sleeves and toploaders, but rather than taping the toploaders shut, I put the toploader (or toploaders with a sandwich of sleeved cards between them) on a piece of paper, and then I wrap the toploader/sandwich with the paper, sealing the paper shut with a bit of tape.  That keeps the toploaders from getting gunked up with tape, and it also keeps any cards from coming into contact with tape adhesive (as when happens when they slide loose of their sleeves).  The weight is negligable, and it makes for a cleaner/easier trade for the recipient.

Cheers!

Can anyone else re-create the problem I describe below?

I don't know if this just started, or if I just missed it before.  When editing Detailed Information on cards in my inventory (with an active filter), the Properties field does not display where it should in the Detailed Information screen.

If editing the first few cards, it pops up in an appropriate place, but if trying to edit cards further down on the list, the properties sheet appears displaced on the page--most often far above, but sometimes below.  After opening the Detailed Information page for a specific card, if I use the main page scroll bars to scroll up to near the top of the page, the Properties field selection box will appear someone on the screen--sometimes in line with the record being edited, but other times very high in the window, near the top of the screen.

At times, it appears that the Properties box will open a little lower each time I access it for a record, almost the way Windows cascades windows when multiples are opened.  It does not affect the horizontal alignment--only the vertical position.

This happens for me under IE7 and Chrome.  Relaunching the browser and rebooting the PC did not clear it up.

Fixed!

Have you thought of adding other junior member administrators who could take care of some minor tasks for you, like fixing a rating, or relocating threads that are under the wrong topic?

I'm sure you have some members here who have been active a long time (I've only started trading actively in the past month or two) who have shown themselves trustworthy.  It's fairly common on other sites.

When I get batches of card (e.g., collections, large lots), I typically sort them by edition, color, quality, etc. to make adding them in the advanced card input screen easier.  One thing I've noticed for cards that exist across multiple editions is that the system defaults to the newest release.  That's fantastic if I'm entering new cards from the most recent release, but gets to be annoying when trying to add quantities of cards across multiple sets.

What I propose is this: an override field for the edition.  If left blank, the form will use the default value that populates the drop-down edition box.  If populated, every card you add will use the edition listed in the override box until the box is cleared (either manually, via a button, or by refreshing the page).

The override box could still use the lookup to the list of valid set names, to ensure no errors (due to invalid edition) as the cards are added.

This could also be done with the condition and language fields.

While it would most benefit those of us entering large numbers of cards at one time, it would also benefit anyone who enters older decks.  For example, I'm just getting around to entering my Venser vs. Koth Duel Deck today, so each time I enter a card, the system populates the edition as the most recent regular edition that included that card in the release. I need to manually select the VvK edition for each card being added.

Thanks for the great site.  I realize you can't do everything.  I'll just keep posting ideas as they come, and you may decide whether it will be a good improvement for the community.

You're very right about that, there used to be less ways to win very quickly but how recently has there been a T1 win combo not using any power 9 cards? I think that the overall power of cards is increasing, leading to shorter and less fun games, which is why I like Casual EDH, it's a slower format where you're just having fun without needing to win t3

I think the really short games are a result of pairings at FNM and similar events where you have really experienced deck builders and players up against newer/less experienced deck builders and players.  At least locally, I see that all the time, but see pairings between some of the best players in the house and the games fill the allotted time and sometimes go over.  The same is true when the less experienced players match up.  While things may be stacked to allow for some of those crazy, quick wins, I think the developers have also done a great job of working to balance some of those mechanics (e.g., Cavern of Souls as an answer to Snapcaster Mage and various counterspells, high damage spells in response to high power/toughness creatures).

In some ways, it's like price inflation.  Everyone remembers what gas cost when they were young (or fruit, or ground beef, or whatever), and they always end up comparing current prices with what first imprinted on their memories.  Prices go up.  The power of cards goes up.  As long as the price and power increases in line with everything else, things remain balanced, even if we remember what it was like "in the good old days".

I've been doing a lot of trading lately, and I have to say that Deckbox is just really great at handling all of this information and process in a very great way.
But doing all of that trading has given me a lot of ideas about how possibly to improve the process as well.

I apologize in advance for my long windedness.

Duplicate Trade Alert
When opening my packs for M13, I ended up with three Yeva, Nature's Heralds and a whole bunch of additional cards.  I didn't really need a lot of the cards, so I obviously went to trade them away.  The problem arose when I got a bunch of different offers, for a lot of different cards, and the offers switched all around a lot, and all of this happened in the same day.  It got really hard to keep track of which cards I had already agreed to trade and which ones I still had available.  The only real solution was to open up the dozen or so trades each in their own tab and manually go through each one to verify whether or not a single card was being traded or not.

It would be great if, when you are trading more than one of the same card at the same time or if you're trading more than on your tradelist in different trades, that you would be alerted to that fact, just in case.  Very similar to how you are warned that a card isn't in your tradelist:
http://i.imm.io/xRlo.png
But instead, a warning saying something like, "Another current trade also contains this card".

And the same also goes for cards that you are trading for.  If you have a lot of trades going on, then sometimes it is hard to remember exactly what you're getting from each trade.  I recently got an extra Corpse Harvester that I didn't mean to trade for, because I forgot that I had already traded for one.  Warning me, in a similar fashion, that I'm trading for more of that card than I originally wanted to, would be a breath of fresh air.

Trades Involving Each Card
This example kind of goes hand-in-hand with the last one.  It would be great when looking at an individual card's page, if it would list all of your current trades that the card is involved in.  That way you can just jump straight to the trades, rather than trying to dig through all of the trades on the trade page, trying to find the right one.

Saving Final Trade Value
On a trade page, there is the little note that "The card prices displayed above are current prices - at the time this trade was finished they might have been significantly different".

I think it would be pretty easy to save off the overall trade values when both people Accept the trade.  Then, later on, you could come back to the trade, see both the original and new/updated values and compare.

Differences
This one is erring more on the difficult end of the spectrum, but I figured I would throw it out there anyway.

Sometimes I come back to a trade and the other person has rearranged everything, removed things, added things, whatever.  It would be nice if you would store the differences between the last two proposals, for easy viewing, so I can see exactly what they changed.  That way I don't have to go back and dig through their Tradelist/Inventory again to figure out which cards I wanted.

Again, this site is amazing, and I appreciate the effort that goes into it.  And let me know if you ever need a hand.

PENDING TRADES
----------------------
I agree with your desire for a way to monitor how many cards are tied up in pending trades.  I nearly traded away all copies of a couple of cards because multiple trading partners requested the same ones. I also ended up with a few extra copies of some cards, because multiple trading partners put the same cards in their configurations.

Rather than see a flag, I'd love to see another couple of columns: one for pending outbound trades (-#) and one for pending inbound trades (+#).

The pending outbound list would include any quantities of the card in proposed configurations, both local and by mail.  It would not include any quantities once you mark cards as shipped for mail trades.

The pending inbound list would include any quantities fo cards in proposed and shipped configurations (since inventory is not adjusted until you receive the cards).

TRADE VALUE
-----------------
I also put a hearty "Second!" behind your idea of capturing the trade value at the time of completion.  With the recent price hiccoughs (brought about by changes in TCGPlayer.com's pricing to reflect versions), I've already had a couple of questions on pending trades when the values jumped significantly, tipping the amounts to be very favorable to one party or the other.
