Notes

This deck eventually beat Steven's Rakdos deck, despite some frustrating losses to that card specifically. (It felt like no matter how well I was doing, his grull-rakdos deck could just suddenly win). I think there was a good bit of luck involved but chillbringer was huge in keeping damage in check, and if neither of us got our mythics out (I got mine less often but still won the series.) I could dampen his attacks a bit and then try to go over the top. It looks like I took out open the gates for a Steeple Creeper at one point. Then, probably a much smarter change in the last match of taking out Titanic Brawl for another Steeple Creeper. (I often couldn't fight his creatures as they were just as big or bigger than mine, but going over the top was something he had a hard time with). I underestimated the creeper because of its low toughness but being able to jump, even if its expensive, puts a lot of power in the air. The Azorius guy was probably a riskier trade for the bounce spell, and I should have had more white, but it was a good safe way to prevent some of his damage while still jabbing him down, had I gotten it out there.

I eventually essentially won with flying (Chillbringer, even artificer's assistant). Not big things or trample (galloping lizrog was unhelpful). Which is an important remindeder to play to their weaknesses. I'm not going to get bigger than Gruul, so I have to find a way to stifle and evade. Also, learn to do the math on the tough choices like trading a sauroform hybrid before it can be big or a Pteramander for a footlight fiend. It hurts, but it's still just a card and damage is still damage. Letting the fiend through 6-8 times so it won't ping your Pteramander is unlikely to pay off. (in some cases it might, you could wait 6 turns while laying land and casting instants if you knew you'd have them and knew they didn't have a flying answer or a 1 damage kill spell. you'd both end up at 14 then they're on a 3 turn clock. But against this deck he was too able to kill a 1 toughness creature directly and 14 was well within striking distance.)
