I've been doing a lot of trading lately, and I have to say that Deckbox is just really great at handling all of this information and process in a very great way.
But doing all of that trading has given me a lot of ideas about how possibly to improve the process as well.

I apologize in advance for my long windedness.

Duplicate Trade Alert
When opening my packs for M13, I ended up with three Yeva, Nature's Heralds and a whole bunch of additional cards.  I didn't really need a lot of the cards, so I obviously went to trade them away.  The problem arose when I got a bunch of different offers, for a lot of different cards, and the offers switched all around a lot, and all of this happened in the same day.  It got really hard to keep track of which cards I had already agreed to trade and which ones I still had available.  The only real solution was to open up the dozen or so trades each in their own tab and manually go through each one to verify whether or not a single card was being traded or not.

It would be great if, when you are trading more than one of the same card at the same time or if you're trading more than on your tradelist in different trades, that you would be alerted to that fact, just in case.  Very similar to how you are warned that a card isn't in your tradelist:
http://i.imm.io/xRlo.png
But instead, a warning saying something like, "Another current trade also contains this card".

And the same also goes for cards that you are trading for.  If you have a lot of trades going on, then sometimes it is hard to remember exactly what you're getting from each trade.  I recently got an extra Corpse Harvester that I didn't mean to trade for, because I forgot that I had already traded for one.  Warning me, in a similar fashion, that I'm trading for more of that card than I originally wanted to, would be a breath of fresh air.

Trades Involving Each Card
This example kind of goes hand-in-hand with the last one.  It would be great when looking at an individual card's page, if it would list all of your current trades that the card is involved in.  That way you can just jump straight to the trades, rather than trying to dig through all of the trades on the trade page, trying to find the right one.

Saving Final Trade Value
On a trade page, there is the little note that "The card prices displayed above are current prices - at the time this trade was finished they might have been significantly different".

I think it would be pretty easy to save off the overall trade values when both people Accept the trade.  Then, later on, you could come back to the trade, see both the original and new/updated values and compare.

Differences
This one is erring more on the difficult end of the spectrum, but I figured I would throw it out there anyway.

Sometimes I come back to a trade and the other person has rearranged everything, removed things, added things, whatever.  It would be nice if you would store the differences between the last two proposals, for easy viewing, so I can see exactly what they changed.  That way I don't have to go back and dig through their Tradelist/Inventory again to figure out which cards I wanted.

Again, this site is amazing, and I appreciate the effort that goes into it.  And let me know if you ever need a hand.

I agree with your desire for a way to monitor how many cards are tied up in pending trades.  I nearly traded away all copies of a couple of cards because multiple trading partners requested the same ones. I also ended up with a few extra copies of some cards, because multiple trading partners put the same cards in their configurations.

Rather than see a flag, I'd love to see another couple of columns: one for pending outbound trades (-#) and one for pending inbound trades (+#).

The pending outbound list would include any quantities of the card in proposed configurations, both local and by mail.  It would not include any quantities once you mark cards as shipped for mail trades.

The pending inbound list would include any quantities fo cards in proposed and shipped configurations (since inventory is not adjusted until you receive the cards).

Stuffy Doll would be interesting alongside Odric, Master Tactician. Have the requisite number attacking and Odric can have all defenders block Stuffy Doll.

Would it be possible to add feedback for local trades. Perhaps another rating icon (a car, perhaps)? That would let members know whether or not a specific user has been found to be a good trading partner, just as the star ratings work for mail trades.

Then, add Tormod's Crypt to exile all cards from the opponent's graveyard...

Yeah, anything that's been printed in multiple sets, especially things from ABU and Revised is showing a major skew in price.

It has been suggested that the site offer ways to distinguish pricing on different versions.  I guess this might just force the hand a bit.

Or call it "Dollar / Euro" or something.  Basically, I could setup a trade where I'm offering "Cash" (10 units) and my trading partner is offering Sorin.  Or something like that.  Just so I can easily make cash offers for cards without having to do it entirely through the chat window.

I agree that an option to add a placeholder item (pre-populated option or free form) is a great idea.  I've proposed a purchases to others, so it would be nice to be able to list the amount of cash being offered.

I can also imagine that some might have some other unique items (e.g., sleeves, deck boxes) that could be traded, though it might be taking the site too far from its original intention.

Yeah, I think what happened was the site is collecting data from all printings of the card, It makes old cards that go back to Alpha to now more expensive, because it averages printings from then

Yes, it's the breakdown of cards by release that is causing the fuss.  The average price appears to be including all variants.

According to the average method, my collection jumped in value over $1,000 in the past week.  Quite the surprise.

When I looked at the maximum pricing, my collection (should be around $1,800 using the average method) is now valued at over $134, 000!

I got a good laugh from that one.

I'm just going to switch to lowest for now, until there is some progress on making the average more realistic again.

BTW--I view the low price as the amount of cash I'd likely get if I sold my entire collection.  I use (--prior to today--) the average to determine the insurance value for my collection.

Pretty good idea. I might even macro all of these keys so that I can mass-add Champions of Kamigawa, good-condition cards. Thanks! smile

One word of warning--the steps I listed might not work properly across all browsers.  I typically use Chrome (the detail add interface has never worked for me in IE).

We will indeed be doing some improvements in price handling in trades (they will take into account your edition, if you have explicitly set one).

Your idea of having a "per trade" setting for min/avg/max is also interesting. Will take into consideration.

Perhaps, instead of an option for low/avg/high, could the trade window show all three values? Would that pull too much data, putting a strain on things? Having all three would let both parties instantly see whether the average price is being skewed by high listings.

I can see how you would want the filter to sort through ownership traits instead of what sets the card was printed in. On the other hand, that would make it inconsistent with how the exact same filter works when you're searching the card database. What's more, how would it work if you didn't enter any card details when you added the card to your inventory?

I believe the users who posted their concerns here have all entered card details. Or else the issue wouldn't really be applicable.

Point is, for users like myself, I'd much prefer to filter through ownership traits. There are many resources you could use to find out whether or not a certain card is printed in a certain set. The purpose of using this site for me is to keep track of my collection. If I search for M12 cards, I would like to see the cards that I own in M12 and not any M11 cards I own that also happen to be printed in M12. Perhaps the database search should have different filters than your own inventory search.

I see your point, and acknowledge the value of such a feature.  There are times I've wanted to do so, too.  However, often I am just checking to see what cards I currently have that are legal in a given format.  If playing Standard, I'm not concerned about which edition of a card I have, but rather the total number of them available to me from all blocks.

Two users, two different uses.  Hopefully, as features are added, the system will retain flexibility so each type of user may use it to suit his or her needs.

Your obvious trample options will be Rancor and Ring of Kalitas.

Just remember that Infinite Reflection will make your creatures all copies of the Sublime Archangel and will rock some MAJOR exalted, but only one can attack at a time... It'll be interesting to see if that combo pans out or not, as I can imagine plenty of other creatures that could prove equally useful with Infinite Reflection that you could attack with multiples of.  My first thought would be to pair that with Elderscale Wurm if you're going green.  7/7 trample and you cannot die unless they kill all of them?  Yes please.

You got me thinking about Infinite Reflection in green, and I'm working on a deck now.  I was also thinking about trying black, and copying a card with a decent "enters the battlefield" ability. Even Bloodhunter Bat becomes a real problem for an opponent if every card coming into play causes my opponent to lose life while I gain life.  Then if I add Mimic Vat and some flicker effects, there will be some major gnashing of teeth.

Just posting the deck with the card links, to help people review what you have.

[Deck]
Creatures
4x Borderland Ranger
3x Scorned Villager
2x Young Wolf
1x Somberwald Sage
1x Wolfir Silverheart
1x Thundermaw Hellkite
3x Acidic Slime
3x Arbor Elf
3x Bond Beetle
3x Roaring Primadox
1x Thragtusk
2x Yeva, Nature's Herald

Enchantments
1x Descendants' Path
2x Rancor

Land
1x Cavern of Souls
2x Reliquary Tower
1x Rootbound Crag
8x Mountain
12x Forest

Planeswalkers
1x Chandra, the Firebrand

Spells
2x Thunderbolt
2x Flames of the Firebrand
2x Searing Spear
2x Turn to Slag
2x Farseek
[/Deck]

What do you envision for your win condition? Which creatures, spells or abilities would you use to make it happen?  Knowing what you intend will go a long way toward a better understanding of your deck, what works, and what doesn't.

Working on a trade today, when I tried to change quantities of some cards, the quantities of others changed too.

Example: Trade containing Revenge of the Hunted, Sublime Archangel, and Cathars' Crusade.  Each came into the list at quantity one.  When I changed Revenge of the Hunted to quantity four, Sublime Archangel (the adjacent card in the list) also changed to four.

Similarly, when I started trimming cards from a trade, entering a zero amount for one card would also zero (and thus remove) another adjacent card (always the card below the one being modified).

It happens less often if I tab out after changing a quantity.  Clicking out of the box increases the appearance of the problem.

I'm using Deckbox in Firefox 10.0.6, under Windows 7 (x64) with 4 Gb RAM.

If going the mobile app route, it would be nice to be able to keep a copy of our inventory locally on the phone.  I play at a rural card shop where the data connection is useless.  I'd love to go through my Deckbox inventory online or in an app, but the lack of a good data connection means I'll still be printing lists each week, unless there is a local inventory option.

I also agree that the mass import feature will be great.  In the interim, you can count the tab stops and use the keyboard for many entries/edits.  The only one that requires me to click to use it is the foil/promo list.   Otherwise, I can do the following:

1. Start typing name
2. Hit <Enter> when the correct name appears.
3. If planning to enter more than one edition, <Tab> once and hit <Enter> to add another row.  You may hit <Enter> multiple times to add multiple rows (one for each edition).
3. <Tab> to Qty (if not adding rows, <Tab> twice after the correct name is in place).
4. <Tab> to Edition. Hold the <Alt> key and use the up and down arrow keys to select the edition.
5. <Tab> to Condition. Hold the <Alt> key and use the up and down arrow keys to select the edition.

NOTE: in this field, you can type the first letter of the condition (e.g., "G" for Good), but the change will not appear until you move to the next field [***It would be nice if that could change, so as to function similar to the card entry box.***]

6. <Tab> to Language. Hold the <Alt> key and use the up and down arrow keys to select the edition.

NOTE: in this field, you can type the first letter of some of the languages (e.g., "I" for Italian), but not all languages map to Latin characters.  In addition, changes made using only the first letter will not appear until you move to the next field [***It would be nice if that could change, so as to function similar to the card entry box.***]

7. Hit <Tab>.   If you have multiple rows, it will move you to the Qty field next row. If you have no other rows, it will move you to the Import button.

8. Press <Enter> to add the cards to the database.

I agree. I'm currently putting my whole collection on here - awesome site, by the way - and I just got to my well-used Kamigawa Serpent deck. All of those cards are in Good condition, not Near Mint, and it's a pain to change for every card. That, plus the fact that even if you tab through the controls you can't see where your cursor is, nor can you press enter to submit the card if it's on a drop-down list.

Being able to import them all at once, by text, with card condition, set and all, would be awesome.=)

As to hitting <Enter> to submit, you may just need to hit it one more time.  The first time, it moves the selection from the list to the text box.  The next time you hit <Enter>, it adds the card with the default settings and a quantity of one.

Elixir of Vitality or Elixir of Immortality?

I list all my cards here.  Some (myself include) may be trying to complete playsets of specific blocks.  In such cases, they're looking for cards of all rarities.

I agree on having a good system for cataloging and accessing all your cards. I break my card storage down as follows:

Rares/Mythics, foils, high value cards - in a binder and sorted into sections based on format (standard, all other) and then ordered by color, with one misc. section in the back for odds-and-ends cards I won't mind trading. Cards are alphabetized in each section. I always leave at least one pocket open (both front and rear) to accommodate adding cards without needing to shuffle everything.  I also keep a couple of pages in the front of my binder, in which I put cards I received in trade.  That makes it easier to remember what I need to add to my inventory.

Standard - I have a very large five-section card box.  Each color gets a row of its own.  Colorless cards and the more common non-basic lands fill the gaps in the ends of the rows.  Within each color, cards are broken down between commons and uncommons, and each group is alphabetized.  As cards rotate in and out of Standard, I adjust what I keep there.

Non-standard - All of my older commons and uncommons (unless high value) are kept alphabetized in a series of smaller (850 ct.) card boxes.  I have dividers (typically rules/advert cards with post-it notes on them) between each letter, creating a card file effect.  The boxes are numbered (currently, 1-4), allowing me to add more as time progresses.

Lands - I keep all my land sorted by color and block in 850 ct. boxes, trying to get or retain at least four of each variant.  If I end up with way too many (like when I acquire someone else's collection), I cherry pick what I need, and then give away the rest (to friends, family members, or the local game store).

I'd like to propose an idea to simplify the creation of a new trade proposal.  It may have been proposed before, but I couldn't find it when searching the message board.

Right now, if you want to propose a trade with someone, you need to list cards for an offering, and list cards you want.  Well, you already allow us to see which players have specific cards, and then, after clicking through to the player, we can see what else they have on their trade list that we have on ours.

How about adding controls on each line of that list (either a check box, or a quantity box), to allow us to specify how many of them we want.  You could also include an option box for things like Foil, Promo, or a specific language.  Then, have a Request Trade button below the list. It becomes a veritable trade shopping cart for a given user's trade list.

Did I describe it well enough? Anyone like the idea?

Something to more permanently protect your sublimes once they're out on the field is probably a good thing.

I'm not sure how much use you'll get out of haste, because you probably don't want to be attacking with your bigger creatures most of the time and putting them at jeopardy.  I'd, personally, probably go with the Mask, but that's just me.

I was thinking of the Hexproof abililty of either of those artifacts.  Not too concerned about the added bonus or haste, but the damage mod wouldn't hurt.

Perhaps Ring of Kalonia to grant trample, too?
