If you're worried about recurring your Torments, you're better off with Eternal Witness, it gives you a decent body and can get back anything you need.

I'm not going to lie, modern is far from a budget format, the only moderatly inexpensive competitive deck I've seen is mono-red burn and even that sometimes uses fetchlands just to thin out the deck of lands, I'm sure the deck will be fun to play but at a PTQ you're likely to face people who can deal infinite damage/gain infinite life on T3 and other shenanigans like that, regardless it will be a fun experience but I'd suggest testing on Cockatrice first just so you have an idea of what's coming, I usually title mine "Modern Homebrew" when I'm playing a deck based on a combo.

Just my 2 cents, I hope I didn't sound mean or depressing sad I do think you'll have a great time either way!

Is one crusader even worthwhile tho? I mean they've got wraths and such so they can kill it, and if you only have one you can't guarantee you'll hit it, I can see how unblockable infect is sick but I think you'll need more consistency for it to matter.

I would suggest cutting one Finks, one Sculler, and one KoTR in that order depending on how many Teeg you wanted.

As far as Goyf and Seize, they're not that important, I just said it since it's a pretty obvious choice.

What do you bring in Mirran Crusader and Pithing Needle against?

Are there any match-ups you're particularly worried about? And is Creeping Corrosion better than Kataki, War's Wage?

Doran's pretty good at least in board if you're in junk, not quite as good in your build since you've got finks and confidant, however you're rarely attacking with confidant anyway.

Gaddock Teeg seems almost main-deck worthy, given that you're not running anything in the main deck that it hurts and it kills a lot of decks, I'm sure you know which, it's only really not that good against Tron and Jund, so that's worth considering as well.

I don't think that Phyrexian Crusader is worth a slot at all, what is it good against? Zoo? Maybe I'm missing something but it seems pretty bad. Leyline of the Void also seems better than Rest in Peace since 15 of your 23 creatures are either based off or benefit from the graveyard.

Where are you playing? This seems pretty darn good in a FNM-Type setting, I can't really comment on above that accept Inquisitions should probably be Thoughtseize and you should have 4 Goyf and 3 Knight of the Reliquary.

Ok well first of all wither does not effect deathtouch, the damage is dealt in -1/-1 counters but is still damage and so deathtouch still applies. Wither does not interact with how your opponent is dealt damage therefore Infect basically just means that they deal damage to players in poison counters. First Strike/Double Strike act in the exact same way but the damage is dealt in -1/-1 counters. This means that if you have a 2/1 First Striker and they've got a 1/100 wall and they block your creature their wall becomes a -1/98 and does not kill your creature.

Ok, now what does your Meta-Game look like? Are you looking to play this at a tournament? FNM? Casual with Friends? If you're hoping to beat lifegain (Likely Soul Sisters) this is not the way to go, lifegain is usually white, often mono-white and nothing has more enchantment removal than White.

You are also missing out on the best creature with Wither, Necroskitter, it may not be in your colors, but it's certainly the best option, also just in general black is your best option, Black Sun's Zenith with a Necroskitter and Melira means you take everything your opponents control and nothing you control get hurt.

I can be alot more helpful with more information

If you're worried about things like Sever the Bloodline, that's what Nevermore is for.  Similarly, Mizzium Skin, Ranger's Guile, and Sheltering Word would all help there.

Don't forget Simic Charm which can protect from burn, act as removal, and protect from removal

You could also consider Olivia Voldaren, she lets you take your opponent's creatures permanently, so you don't even have to kill them, you can just keep em, she does require a bit of mana to get started however since it's a total of {R}{B}{B}{4} to take over a non-vampire creature, but she can take over anything, kill your opponent's creatures and she gets huge in the process, just something to consider.

While Elvish Archdruid can spit out TONS of mana without any real issues you're really relying on him to produce mana in general, Arbor Elf really doesn't get it done by its self even if you hit your ramp spells as well, Worldspire Wurm seems really insane, you're going to need 2 Archdruids along with a bunch of other elves out, I think that most of the deck seems really cool but the Wurms seem like they're very unlikely, the only place I could imagine them being cast would be in mono-green with Boundless Realms. Also maybe I'm just wrong but I think that you could really use Gyre Sage, at worst it's a 2cc Llanowar Elf but I would imagine that it usually gets up to at least 2 mana per turn and if you get a biomancer after you get a Gyre Sage it's going to be pumping out mana like crazy. I don't really think that Spire Tracer is worthwhile, Evasion is kind of nice but since it can't actually block anything with flying it's just an evasive 1/1 and you only have 2 creatures that can pump it.

Perhaps I am missing something and you just want to get a couple big creatures but I think that Soul of the Harvest would be a really good choice, it seems like the main thing that your deck doesn't have is card-draw and this is one of the best engines, you can go T1 Arbor Elf, T2 Archdruid, T3 Soul of the harvest, T4 dump like 10 elves onto the battlefield, sure it's the nut draw but you want to have an impressive nut draw in any deck and I'm not really seeing one for this one, T3 Zegana, draw 3???

My recommendation
-2 Worldspire Wurm
-4 Spire Tracer
-1 Craterhoof Behemoth

+4 Gyre Sage
+2 Soul of the Harvest
+1 Akroma's Memorial (Allows huge strings of elves off of soul of the harvest because arbor elves essentially cost 0 due to the haste)

I havn't played elves in standard since Ezuri rotated out so I could be way way off the mark but this is just what popped into my head, hope it helps

So I've been working on a modern pod deck for quite a while now and I've come up with this build, the core of the deck is the same as every other Melira pod deck ever but there are a fairly large number of differences as well, one of the biggest differences is that I include Lotus Cobra and Acidic Slime, my rationale is that I want to have the ability to play around cards like Mana Leak and Remand, since I can just re-cast/pay the cost, and if I'm not facing control it's really good at letting me drop my entire combo in one turn, something the deck is not usually capable of. Acidic slime is really more of a meta-game choice, Tron is kindof a big thing at my LGS, probably second largest after Jund, and so the ability to get a dude that blows up one of their lands is pretty huge, and having a guy on the battlefield can often let me kill them before they get a chance to assemble the piece they're missing.

I'm fairly confident about my Main Deck, but my Sideboard is a bit Shaky, I have one of each of the following:

Ethersworn Canonist Storm/Combo in General
Gaddock Teeg Anti Control after I drop a Pod
Kataki, War's Wage Affinity
Melira, Sylvok Outcast Extra against heavy Removal
Phyrexian Revoker Planeswalkers (Liliana?)
Suture Priest Kiki Pod/Splinter Twin
Thalia, Guardian of Thraben Control + Combo
Tidehollow Sculler Control
War Priest of Thune Leylines (Sanctity and Void)
Withered Wretch Mirror/Reanimator
Fiend Hunter Tron (Only answer to Emrakul, can fetch at instant speed with Chord Should be Nekrataal but I don't have any)
Fulminator Mage Tron
Falkenrath Noble Slaughter Games and the like (allows me to combo with infinite finks loop even if they get rid of redcaps)
Linvala, Keeper of Silence Combo
Thrun, the Last Troll Control

Some of these guys are just because I either don't own the correct card/I don't have it with me (Harmonic Sliver over War Priest of Thune) but I figure with as much tutoring as I have I should be ok with only running one of each, the main thing I don't have in my board that most builds do is Obstinate Baloth, I havn't decided how I feel about the Baloth yet, especially with aggro not being a major issue and my priority being to shut down Liliana, not play around her

I want the deck to have an answer to pretty much any of the major archtypes, is there anything that I'm majorly missing or any thoughts on the deck? (All advice is welcome even if you don't play much modern)

Well firstly I don't think you really need to worry about having a lot of humans, you've only got 4 cards in the deck that care about humans and so it's not really worth choosing humans over other cards when you won't always even get the cards that affect humans.

That being said I would say that Arbor Elf and Elvish Visionary are excellent choices. The visionary is good, not great but you really want to get to your big stuff as quickly as possible, another suggestion from me would be to add all of your cards with the ability "Extort", it allows you to gain life every time you cast a spell which is particularly good in a deck like this that wants to get into the late game, Elgaud Inquisitor and other similar cards are very good as well, he will gain you a little life (and therefore more time) and when he dies you get another creature. Ranger's Path is also very strong, it can ideally let you cast your Archangel on turn 4 (First either an arbor elf or avacyn's pilgrim or farseek, then on turn 3 ranger's path, then you have 6 mana for the next turn)

I would also say that you could use more ways to kill your opponent's creatures, Pillar of Flame, Prey Upon, Pacifism, Pit Fight, Brimstone Volly, and Searing Spear are all VERY good options, especially pacifism, these let you stop your opponent's creatures right away so that you can get yours out.

Finally if you're finding that your opponents tend to have a very powerful creature that can kill you very quickly Act of Treason is a very good choice as it lets you take that creature for a turn and kill them with it.

All of this depends on who you're playing of course, good luck and hope this helps

One card that should be considered is Blasphemous Act, if you can cast Boros Charm and Blasphemous act it will usually kill all of your opponent's creatures, and do 13 damage to their face, so afterwards you can attack unblocked and kill them even if they're playing life-gainers like Thragtusk or Centaur Healer.

It depends on your meta, however where I play Jund is kind of the big thing, and Boggle doesn't fair very well with that simply because of Liliana, I think that people are starting to have a bit more sideboard hate against GOST especially since right now UW/UWR control is looking to be towards the top of the food chain. Soul Sisters is interesting, I've never played it myself so I can't really comment about how good/bad it is but I think that unless you throw in swords it's going to be fairly tough to do pretty much anything because of all of the removal in the format, your win cons seem to be Serra Ascendant ajani's pridemate, and baneslayer, not really needing to worry about your life total is pretty nice but I'm not sure how good it is with only 10 creatures that can win the game, with lightning bolt able to kill 8 of those (Assuming base stats of course). It also sounds like you're trying to move from soul sisters into more of straight up white weenie, it seems like a good move, but if you just throw Hawks and Swords I think it'll be trapped between 2 good archtypes and not do very well at either one.

I personally liked to be introduced to older formats with combo decks because they really demonstrate the difference between standard and older formats, since generally speaking, standard doesn't have any really good combos, it lets you see that older formats really do have a lot wider range of deck choices, I'm currently running Melira Pod and it's been very fun but Tron is usually a more consistent choice for combo.

Overall very fun looking decks, I think that either would work out well but practice ahead of time would be good for her, because in my opinion good opening hands in modern are less obvious than in standard.

Bump updated OP
