Went 4-0 with this deck, taking 1st in my 9-person prerelease. The fact that so many of my rares were in Boros was really great!

Considered running the Hellkite, but didn't think I could support its affinity sufficiently. Wished I could've run Ulamog, but 10 mana was way out of reach. Flare of Fortitude seemed like it wasn't worth maindecking, as either cost seemed pretty steep (maybe if my opponent had a wrath I would've boarded it in). Medallions don't seem that great in limited, but it was a nice draw.

That said, Phlage was really good, and the overall energy package was also pretty solid. There were times when I felt like I was a little short, but overall it seemed reasonable for what I was using it for (especially the Amulet and the Guide of Souls). Ended up running all my RW landscapes to fuel Phlage's escape cost. That cost also conflicted just a little with the Phoenix, but Phlage is the stronger card and Phoenix coming back is almost just a bonus.

I thought about splashing, and had a decent amount of fixing. But ultimately, I just decided to stay focused on RW. The splash I considered most seriously was black for Buried Alive, but it seemed a little too cute (and would've been a pretty dead card if drawn after Phlage and Phoenix). Two of the black gold cards were also interesting, but not really worth splashing for. Sadly the black removal was all double-pipped.
