It's a common problem on smaller forums.  I used to mod on another forum, and the easiest way we found there was to require a new user's first 10 posts to be subject to moderator approval.  It was tedious and a mild annoyance, and it didn't stop the spammers from posting, it just kept those posts from hitting the main boards.  And since they needed a minimum of 10 approved posts, even if one cleverly snuck in (I noticed that sometimes they'd copy a post and sneak a link into the middle of it, so when scanning the posts in the queue, it would look legit), the majority never saw the light of day.

I like that idea, though the site would likely need more moderators (across the various language groups, too).

I edit the card details and check the box and hit edit, but nothing happens.

Removing them in the card details pane only removes detail records.  There is no referential integrity that changes your inventory number when you reduce the number of entries in the details pane.  If there are more details than you have inventory, you get a warning at the top of the details screen.  If you have fewer completed detail entries than you have cards, there is no warning--it just creates blank detail records for the balance of the inventory numbers.

In other words, if you delete the detail records, you still need to delete the corresponding number of cards from the inventory column  on the inventory screen (or wishlist, or tradelist).

For Knight of the Reliquary, are you picky on which release (i.e., are you okay with the one from the duel deck)?

It's already selling for over $150 in some locations.

From the Vault: Realms

Edit: it took some effort to get the link to display.  The BBCode doesn't like the spaces in the URL's search string.

Would it be possible to put together a query that would highlight changes between in the outgoing block and the incoming block? I'm particularly interested in changes around the Standard format.  I'm not sure if this would be applicable to other formats.

I do know how to view only the cards that are valid in a given format, using the available filters.  What I'm looking for is a list of the cards that are rotating out so I may remove them from the boxes in which I have my Standard cards, and a list of the existing cards that are coming in (reprints) so that I may flag them as being Standard. I realize the incoming list will only be possible once the complete card list is released for the new block.

In an ideal world, it could display all cards in either category, or could be filtered to show only cards that are in my inventory.  The ability to see all rotating cards would be helpful when considering some card acquisitions or trades.

I realize that this will not be possible in time for the next change (October 5, 2012), but would like it considered before next fall's big rotation.

well hell, if that's the case. there's ten or so boxes of Knight/vs/Dragon sets sitting at the walmart near me smile

I've seen them at a few WMs near me, too, but by the time I get back there with funds, they are always gone.

For the record, if you live in a larger city, shipping can be ridiculously fast. In the past few weeks I've sent cards out to Cleveland and San Jose (from Colorado). I shipped on a Saturday, and in both cases the people got their cards on the Monday.

It can be fast, but that doesn't mean that it will be fast. That's the risk of using the USPS.  Over the years, I've shipped items to and from the same cities on many occasions.  One time it might take only a little more than one business day.  The next time, the package might not arrive for nearly two weeks.

They have gotten better, and are more consistent, but it still is no guarantee.  Past results are no guarantee of future performance.

Weird my Game store is selling for 75

While most Magic product must be sold at or below MSRP per the merchant agreement with Wizards of the Coast, the FTV sets appear to be exempt from those rules (as pointed out by another member of this site).  They seem to be a sort of bonus for the Wizards Play Network (WPN) member stores, so what they sell for really is  up to the ethical standards of each merchant, and the rules of supply and demand.

It appears to be a chance for the local game stores (LGSs) to pocket a little extra dough as a "thank you" for being part of the WPN, or (in the case of stores selling it for MSRP) a way for the stores to endear themselves to their local players.  I know I'll make sure more of my Magic dollars go to my LGS this next year--I want to keep them in business, since they gave me such a great deal.

FYI - some game stores were selling FTV: Realms for MSRP.  Mine LGS was one of them.  Also, private sales via eBay are nearing the $100+ range.

CoolStuffInc.com is selling them for $159.00.

Star City Games had them for $119.00, but are sold out.

So, I'm just curious what you guys think of this scenario.

I did a small trade with somebody, ~$3.  Finally get the cards in the mail, but they sent them in a bubble mailer with only a single stamp, which wasn't enough to cover the shipping.  For some reason, the package made it all the way to me, but now I have to pay an extra $1.50 for the shipping costs.  Obviously, I really didn't want to pay another $1.50 for such a small trade (or any trade for that matter), and I informed the other person of the situation, but haven't received any response despite seeing them online numerous times.

Do I demand action, or let it go, or ..... ?

How did you possibly owe shipping? Did the USPS try to bill you or something?

That's what they do, they charge you upon receiving the package because it would cost them money to send it back to the original owner so they just charge you, it's a sucky system but it is what it is, the only time it happens is when you're dropping cards in the mail box so I usually just do it through the post office so I know my postage is correct

Right.  It's "postage due".  You can  send packages intentionally that are postage due, but it also happens when someone shorts the postage.  My guess is that they weighed the mailer, saw that it was under the first class limit, and assumed a first class stamp would cover it.

You might want to talk to your postmaster, explain the situation (trading by mail, postage due) and find out if you can do anything from their end--a complaint or what not.

It was not my intention to shame anyone publicly--that's why I used generic terms for my trading partner.  I'm just glad it was a simple mistake.

Looks like things will work out okay.  The other trader was apologetic, and acknowledges r
being in a rush because he was already behind.  :-)

I worked out a pair of trades with a new member (one at 1:1, and one 4:3 in my favor due to being a trade down and after allowing for the value of foils), and asked him/her to ship first.  There was some delay, but I received the package today. However, both trades are missing cards.

For the 1:1 trade, it's a low value card, and I could let that one go.  In the 4:3 trade, though, it's over $5 in cards, including two Ponder.  I have not yet marked the cards as received, and have noted the missing cards in the trade chat.  I'm trusting that this was just a simple oversight, and that my trading partner will see the comments and make right on the trade (either sending the cards, or allowing me to adjust what I am sending (if that is possible, with the value of the cards on my side of the trade).

Since s/he shipped first, I planned to send my cards out on the next mail day.  What's protocol for this situation? Do I send all my cards (which I had already prepped for shipping, and are sitting in a sealed bubble mailer), or do I withhold them until my partner's side of the trade is complete? Should I send most of the cards, but hold back something of value to ensure I receive the other cards? If I do that, I end up having to pay postage twice.

Any ideas, or words of wisdom, fellow traders?

Hey guys.

Warnings on user profiles (like this one: http://deckbox.org/users/GreyCr0ss) are indeed manually set by us.

...

The next release we will add a "Report User" button to facilitate this kind of feedback...

Sadly, nothing stops such a user from creating another user account and starting over, unless you guys have some magic mojo that is logging IP addresses or something.

All the current turns have been input.

So we can add something like Mikaeus, the Unhallowed (when it gets back to my turn) for the undying for all the creatures, but I can see where Gutter Grime getting picked off would be a big problem.  How could we protect it?

I think that protecting the Gutter Grime is going to be difficult if we don't expand into white, and I'm not entirely sure that is a great idea to spread things that thin.  But adding white would give us other such options as Faith's Shield to protect it, as well as Gavony Township to pump our creatures to keep them around even if the enchantment gets destroyed, as well as opening up the avenue for more ramp with Avacyn's Pilgrim.

And we do have to remember that undying doesn't work for the token creatures, even with Mikaeus, because the creatures have to go to the graveyard, and the instant that a token goes to a graveyard it ceases to exist.

Are the named dual lands open for consideration? They are great if looking for a splash of color.

Your comments are appreciated.

I added Joint Assault without consideration of the Soulbond trigger.  I was just looking at it as a +2/+2 for 1G.

I don't have either of the artifacts you mentioned, but I do like the idea of Lure.  I might swap in Predator Ooze for something, since it is indestructible, and plan to use Lure on it.

I don't have a ton of Infect creatures, so was just trying to throw something together.  I'll see if I can wrangle up any others.

Thanks.

I haven't seen anything here that explains how to do so. I got ripped off and would like to report a bad trader, I understand that there isn't anything they can do about my stolen cards, but I have seen warnings on peoples profiles that they're untrustworthy and you should make them send 1st if you trade with them at all.

Disclosure: I am NOT an admin.

I've not seen warnings on any profiles, but I have seen posts in different threads, warning other users to be wary of [user name].  I recommend posting one in the trade discussion thread for the game that was the subject of the trade.  Consider something along these lines (only a suggestion):

Subject: Bad Trade Alert: [User Name]

In the body, give a summary of what transpired.

  • Tell us how much time has passed since the cards were expected. It should not ever be within a week of the listed send date. That's too soon. It could even take two weeks for cards to arrive. Those timeframes are assuming US to US delivery.  If dealing with someone outside the USA, it might take longer.

  • Include dates.

  • Paste the chat record from the trade into the body of the message.

  • List all steps you have taken to resolve the issue (e.g., emailing, phone calls if you had the number).

  • Include any other details you believe are relevant to the situation.

Also, as others have noted in other of your posts, you may be able to report the user for mail fraud.  Check with your local post office (or check the USPS website) if you have any questions on that option.

I just started playing around with an infect concept deck.  It focuses on low cost creatures and buffs to make them deal those poison counters faster.

http://deckbox.org/sets/221945

I'm thinking of adding four more creatures (Arbor Elves?) as low cost blockers, and as a possible way to ramp a little mana for Wolfir Silverheart.

Let me know what you think.  If I have something that looks playable going into the weekend, I'll use it at FNM.

It's always nice to pull a Fog when things are getting thick.  4x Fog, anyone?
