Notes

Edit 3/19/23:
Strongly considering a commander switch - keep the bones of the deck intact, but use Lagrella, the Magpie instead of Chulane so that the deck won't seem as cEDH. It's still all about the blinks and Panharmoniconia (such as is available in Bant), but with Chulane maybe being in the 99 instead of in the command zone it would make this seem more of a fun deck instead of one trying to get that W.
Making a note to that end, trying to get as much ETB craziness as possible and hopefully take some opponents by surprise.
-----------------------------
All of the proxies have been taken out so I can play this deck during CMDR nights at Game Master Rowlett. It's still a commander that makes people think I'm playing some kind of cEDH, but it's not a terribly powerful deck. It can do some fun stuff, but without LabMan/Jace/Thoracle, it's not really that great at *winning*.

Which is fine, really. I'd rather not have a deck that was really gunning for the KO.

Anyway, I'm adding some stuff to the Card Kingdom wishlist to go along with this as well as Tayam, and I need to update this to reflect what's actually in the deck right now - with all of the proxies removed there were several things that got left out. I did buy a Yavimaya from GMR a few weeks back and stuck it in here, which helps the mana a fair bit - but it might actually be better in Go-Shintai (so that a Reshape the Earth would be more doable).

----------Old Notes Below-----------
This deck will be full of proxies when they all arrive; mostly just stuff I didn't have the wherewithal to source otherwise, along with a few that would have been mighty pricey in their native formats.

I bought the Chulane Brawl deck because I wanted a Bant commander, and then ended up making something that tries to do cool things without being overwhelmingly strong. The idea is that Chulane ramps you pretty naturally, which gives you the opportunity to play some really crazy expensive stuff and draw a ton of cards. My main win condition is Psychosis Crawler, which makes me think I should pick up a Treasure mage or whatever it's called that lets you tutor up an expensive artifact. Then just keep doing what the deck does and let PC ping everyone to death.

It's really not a very solid plan. The deck is able to do a lot of stuff but it ends up being kind of durdly. There's not a whole ton of threat. So I'll need to find some good threats and stuff them in as well. Hopefully it will at least be fun to play.

Maybe the WAR Jace and Thassa's Oracle and a Lab Maniac? There is an awful lot of card draw happening here.

Hmm. I'm wondering now if Roon would be a better replacement commander choice than Lagrella. Certainly in the short-term, he would. I'm going to reset the other list with Roon in the zone and see if that makes better sense, and I'll replace Amareth with Roon in the current commander sleeve.

So this deck has gone through a lot of changes in the past couple of years, starting with trying to get rid of all the proxies - as noted above. In that effort, it would seem that there were not a ton of like-for-like swaps possible with the inventory available to me, so as it stands right now this deck is a mess. I put Chulane into the 99 and replaced him with Amareth, the Lustrous for a commander, mostly just to have some sort of Bant commander that isn't Chulane. Amareth doesn't fit all that well here.

Anyway, I think it might be worth it to go the self-mill FTW route down the road someday when I've got the time and resources; I'd imagine there are other replacements for Chulane that would fit better than Amareth. The cards in this deck now are going to be the basis for the Lagrella deck that I'm working on now.

Played this deck, adding a few cards at the last minute, this weekend against Paul's Teysa and Rob's Atla Palani. It was a pretty spectacular match, even considering that I was feeling kind of irritated in the early going as things just weren't happening quite right. But, in the end, I won - at least sort of. I ended the game with 78 cards in hand and Tishana on the battlefield. That plus Niko's +1 enabled me to get Rob finished off, but the last part of Niko's ability is supposed to return the creature to your hand and I forgot about that. Which prompted Paul to concede, even though I only had two cards left in my library and not nearly enough mana to do anything else useful. Still, a 78/78 Tishana is a good memory, and I did draw 44 cards in one turn, so the deck is definitely doing some things.

Panharmonicon is a wonderful card, to be sure, but I need to be a bit more careful about having it out there as it can make my effects bigger than I can handle sometimes.

I also benefitted greatly from Rob having a Zhur-Taa Ancient out to double everyone's mana production; a big-mana deck like this one is right in that wheelhouse. It makes me think that a Heartbeat of Spring is a lovely addition to the deck, especially considering how much of a target Chulane has on his back.

Rob suggested afterwards that I include a Midnight Clock, which looks even better after considering the Heartbeat to allow you to put counters on it much faster. That could easily take the place of one of the other mana rocks.

Jace, Wielder of Mysteries (from WAR) is one that really should be in here just as a failsafe. And using JWM to win a Commander game is a pretty epic way of winning, especially in a deck with no self-mill and no infinite combos. If I'd have had that in here in that last game, it's a simple matter of slap him down and +1 and game. I mean, unless he's the bottom card of the library, which isn't impossible.

I think the Jace/Oracle/Maniac idea is a pretty strong one, even if that's highly ambitious in EDH.

What I probably need to adjust is the mix of big stuff vs. small, cheap creatures; like mana dorks and that sort of thing. That way the repeatable effect of Chulane will make it easier to have stuff to do and to dig for the things I'm looking for.
