Notes

Deck has been fleshed out considerably - it's now capable of a couple of infinite combos (despite my difficulty understanding how they work exactly) but is still missing its wincon (Halo Fountain). Does lots of interesting things as well.

Still needs a few more pieces until it can do its thing more consistently; my current thought is that the instants and sorceries should lean more toward Treasure than creature tokens as mana seems a bit more important than bodies (especially since JF gives the option for either).

----------------------------------------------------

I pulled a Jinnie Fay in an SNC pack from EDH night and decided it would make a fun commander for a tokens deck - probably more fun that Rhys, which never really seemed to get anywhere. The red part of the deck is pretty underdeveloped and needs to be way heavier on the Treasure (or Blood, or whatever) generation part, but we'll get to that.
List still needs updating and we need to run it out and see how it goes.

Probably the best part of creating this deck was that I got to work with Janice and Hannah on creating some sleeved-up InfiniTokens with art provided by them. Definitely the coolest MTG thing I've ever done with them.

Yeah, this is not a terribly accurate list anymore. I've been tweaking it here and there for a while and it needs to be updated sometime.

The biggest change is that I took out HF. I know, I know, it just won with it the last time! I might buy another and put it back, but I really wanted to give it a shot in STARK, where it makes a fair bit more sense.

Played the latest version of this deck last night in the second game (tried running Volrath for the first and it did a little bit of stuff but not much) and saw how this deck is supposed to work, more or less.

Played against a Dinosaur Fight deck, a Grolnok deck that never did get any green mana, and a Go-Shintai deck. The GS player had a pretty decent start - wasn't all that long before he had Sterling Grove and Privileged Position on the board - but he wasn't really providing a threat, as GS decks usually don't. I had a spectacular opening hand, with Manufactor, Elemental Bond, and Rose Room Treasurer along with the mana to cast them all (and a Sol Ring, for good measure). So it wasn't long at all before I was turning any new creature (or token) into six Dogs and six cards drawn. It all came together when I drew Shamanic Revelation and cast it for 30 cards; I got the Halo Fountain as well as Jaheira (allowing me to tap the tokens), which led to Cryptolith Rite, which let me tap enough Dogs for white to let me use the Fountain's third ability. Just like you draw it up, right? The dinosaur player very nearly screwed it all up with one of his dinosaurs that pings everything for 1 when it gets hit, but I had Rootborn and the mana to cast it available. I think the win came on the next turn anyway, so it was a pretty nice trick.

I wanted to post the recap from when I made infinite Dogs a few months back, but apparently I didn't write a recap for it. Oh well. Suffice to say that there was more of a sense of danger presented by Jinnie in that game, but I was able to get ProsPart down followed by Manufactor; that equals infinite Dogs. It was a nice moment to say, when the guy across from me tried to blow up the Manufactor "in response, I create infinite Dogs." They didn't have haste, but no one had a boardwipe and the legions of mutts strode through everyone's defenses.

I was trying to figure out what the interaction was between JF and Kibo, and found that there are some relatively inexpensive ways to go infinite - to the point that it wouldn't be all that hard to implement them and still keep the deck under $100. So now I'm thinking this could be a budget deck that has upgrade slots for stuff like Primal Vigor and Doubling Season if I wanted to up the power level. And still be able to hit the infinites if everything breaks right, even in the budget configuration. The real needs card-wise for that:
    Halo Fountain
    Academy Manufactor
    Magda, Brazen Outlaw
    Prosperous Partnership

Those four would run about $7.50 based on Deckbox's prices; that's pretty ridiculous to enable multiple ICs. Halo Fountain is going to be the primary wincon anyway, so I'm going to need to pick one up before I can really play this.
  • efaithfarm | Edited 06-Apr-2023 14:22
So here's what I'm thinking - Lily at GMR said I could get about $60 of store credit if I traded in the Jeweled Lotus, which I don't need much and would almost certainly rather have what it would buy. I'm thinking that when the MOC precons are available, I'll want to trade the Lotus for the Convoke and Tinker decks. (Or as much as it would cover of them.)

We'll see how that shakes out. It's currently in Go-Shintai, so I'd need to put something in its place - I'm sure I could find something.
  • efaithfarm | 06-Apr-2023 13:47
Just a quick add - Kher Keep is a good choice for a utility land.
  • efaithfarm | Edited 06-Apr-2023 12:56
Wildfire Awakener from MOC looks like an absolute all-star in this deck. Wand of the Worldsoul too.
I didn't think about Convoke - I bet there are a fair few Convoke cards that would find a nice home here.
  • efaithfarm | 04-Apr-2023 23:27
On the comment below - current prices for the cards in the #tierone group add up to roughly $65 - that includes a copy of Rin and Seri. Not too bad. I think I'll just take it slow and let this come in little by little.
  • efaithfarm | Edited 04-Apr-2023 23:20
More searches on Scryfall gave me quite a few ideas - there are some super good matches for the JF/HF deck construct like Prosperous Partnership and White Sun's Twilight. It really just depends on how far I want to take this concept. I could probably spend $50 total on this and have it cook; kinda thinking that might be the way to go.
  • efaithfarm | 03-Apr-2023 16:10
I think, after browsing through EDHRec for Jinnie Fay, that in a similar vein to making Triskadekaphile the target win condition for Roon/Lagrella, we should try for the Halo Fountain win here.
Obviously there's a fair amount of infrastructure that needs to be built in - not just token creation but probably like Vehicles or something too (in order to tap creatures at will) and stuff like Cryptolith Rite to fix the mana. But man, that would be an amazing win.
EDHRec's page had a lot of fun ideas, so I added them to the Scratchpad and will make a note to watch for them to show up at GMR. (Might also toss a few of them into whatever CardKingdom/SCG order I cook up.)
  • efaithfarm | 03-Apr-2023 15:28
I think this is actually a really good home for Maskwood Nexus - it would allow for some fun interactions with things like Elvish Promenade or Elven Ambush or things like that. (Ranar/Millicent is pretty good, though. Might need to share it between them.)
