Looking again at your main deck, mine has pretty much become this with 4 Guttersnipes. I'll take that 64 count lol.. Can drop the 4 Firebolts (ouch) to make it Modern; would probably add Geistflame, or something similar, maybe Staggershock.

      Oh you're right, I didn't notice it wasn't Modern. Sorry. That's definitely a punch...

Geistflame is definitely its closest sibling. Fortunately, it's not entirely worse. It's instant speed, and the flashback is 4 mana. If you had 5 lands, and a Guttersnipe on field, you'd rather have a Geistflame in hand than a Firebolt in the graveyard.

Nonetheless, I'd caution again'st going 64. Those extra 4 cards hurt your chances of drawing the doubles required for Pyromancer Ascension, and they mess with your land ratio. You should add 2 more lands to balance the other 4, but then you're even higher at 66!

Pyromancer Ascension is a very powerful and fun card, but unfortunately it just pushes the deck to try to do too much. In my self playtests, I found I had much more success with the Finding a Needle in a Bonfire, built only around the Quest for Pure Flame.

But hey, if you want to play with both, go for it. Like I said, they're fun cards, and that's the point of the game!

Yeah I'm going to compile it as a for-fun casual deck; but I'll probably collect the cards needed to streamline it into a mean 4 turn burn deck.
Do you see this getting anywhere in tournaments?
        • Pierce | 27-May-2013 07:13
Dual Quest? Not for tournaments. The Needle in Bonfire? Yes. I'd say you'd be hard pressed to come up with a deck as good for as cheap. Any deck that can win on turn 4 isn't something to sneeze at. Especially since in my playtesting, it won by turn 5 over 50% of the time, and turn 6 at the latest. Of note: ideally you use Needle Drop and Manamorphose on your opponent's turn to increase your chances of casting Thunderous Wrath for miracle cost.
