Notes

I've picked up a lot of steam on MTGO since starting less than two weeks ago. The amount of games and testing to be had is basically unlimited, albeit somewhat specialized to the client. I think my experience with a deck will port over to paper, what doesn't is tournament skills, but I got those. I have my first showcase this weekend, and I'm hopeful that I will qualify for it (just need 10qp more). I started on RW hammer, which was a blast, and was great at the birth of the format, but has lost some of it's zeal. Ghostfire blade is great, but my creatures are not getting through, and bomat courier is no longer what it once was. I also really want more abilities to force through, so I've decided to try a hammer less build of UW Ob and it is overperforming. My reps are making play with it pretty tight, and I'm live all the way through any game. I've won a good number of games because people don't understand how much all that glitters and ethereal armor scale, easily having a range of 10+ any given turn.

I re-read the azorius aura's primer I have saved, and there are interesting differences between the lists. I'm higher on creatures and protection, and lower on 2 mana spells and the card draw engines. When I built it I knew the value of gingerbrute from hammer, and it also keeps our mana consistent. My version is much more aggressive, and harder to disrupt. It draws less cards likely, but my creatures tend to stick and provide continuous draw longer. This is reflected on my increased number of ornithopter, as the fast starts are essential for me. A huge difference in this is then ethereal armor. I have the ability to load a single creature much more quickly than my the other list, thus my closing speed is much stronger. I see no need for cartouche of solidarity, and am lower on sram in general, as it's mostly a lightning rod, and is expensive to get a card out of. I might consider a couple copies of curiosity instead. It's a non-bo with orni un aided though. Considering myself in this angle will help me form my sideboard game plans. I am not interesting in durdling, I am a closer. My sideboard decisions are about assembling fast kills, not about accruing cards per se, but deploying more to the board more quickly than opponents can optimally navigate. The article now seems like a fine framework, but not nearly as innovated as my own idea atthis point, and so he parrallels are not absolute. Like hope is garbage, and the density of 2 drops is absurd. Still, it's a useful touchstone.

I've also lost a good number games by an inch, which makes the little ways of not getting damage through more painful. Gingerbrute chipping in is important, deploying brutes and Alseid's precombat even if not attacking to boost armors, and diversifying aura targets when able to ensure threat density are all hard lessons I'm learning. Mulliganing is also paramount with this deck, and I need to go through some interations to just know if hands are keeps or not. I can operate off 1 land well, but it has to be white, and I need sufficient pressure. A hand of creature + aura is a keep generally, some all creature hands, never all aura hands, and interaction is just bonus G1. It's also a density deck, and I am deploying quickly, so mulligans hurt pretty bad.

To help this process I thought I would do some elephants to help tighten my list, and then be able to practice hands. The list is as follows, slightly updated by my testing:

The top 10 as I understand it:
1.) 4 color uro/omnath
2.) 4 color uro/omnath
3.) 4 color uro/omnath
4.) Sultai Control/ Midrange Uro
5.) Temur Wild Rec Uro
6.) Green Karn/Vivian
7.) Boros Wizards
8.) UW/ Esper Control
9.) Niv-Mizzet reborn
10.) Orzhov Aura's
11.)  Lotus Breach
12.) Oopa All Spells
13.) Jeskai FirES
