Notes

check out the other land decks

maybe cut crop rotation - entomb is an interesting idea, but adding B to mana base is non-trivial - adding raven's crime would be fun, though.  Could replace mishra's factories with undiscovered paradise, maybe.  Or even rainbow vale!  you could blow it up to get it back.  Dumb idea.  Watery grave would probably be good.

How you get rid of ensnaring bridge when you want to attack?  I guess I'm realizing that ratchet bomb is not quite a sub for engineered explosives.  Duh, don't need to ditch ensnaring bridge.  Loam up two or three lands, attack, then play them.

After a tiny bit of testing against fire and lightning pds, I realize mulliganing is probably pretty important.  This deck can easily do nothing for too many turns.  Card advantage is easily regained with the right hand, though.  A 3-card hand with loam, forest, and manabond would be better than many 7-card hands.

Would mirage fetches (grasslands or flood plain be worth including?  I ghost quartered a gemstone mine just to attempt threshold for cephalid coliseum.  Should probably try out a grasslands (or misty rainforest, I wish).

Maybe use mystical tutor as a fourth or fifth life from the loam.  Loam really is key.

More and more this deck is looking like a better way to lose friends than Mario Party.

lol - you'd think so, but I built a legacy manaless dredge deck that was pretty sick, and the guy I play with most just put together a graveyard-hate deck after a few games.  I deserved it, I guess.  But yeah, this one will be pretty slow and grindy, I imagine.  Luckily, I get bored of a deck pretty fast if I feel like it's no fun (for everyone).

I'm sure it'd be fun for *you*, at least.   Take it to your LGS until people start telling you "yeah, I'll play one, but not against that damned land deck".

That would be a proud moment, indeed.

So I assume this is mostly control-focused?  Other than keeping your opponent from playing... well, anything, how would this kind of deck fare against aggro?  Or, to that point, another control deck?

I'm still in the early stages of this thing; it's a "cheap" version of real legacy land decks.  I've just gotten it to a list that I'm ready to build, and I'll start playing it against real people soon, I hope.  So to answer your question: I assume that a fast enough aggro deck could kill it, but it has some pretty good combos that can be set up.  It's a toolbox deck, with a lot of library searching and graveyard recursion.  It can play pretty differently depending on the opponent.  Strip mines, life from the loam, and manabond let you clear your opponent's lands, mazes will slow down most creature-based decks, and academy ruins + mindslaver can give you a lock.  Dark depths + thespian's stage quickly gives you a 20/20 indestructible flyer.  Gifts ungiven and intuition let you grab life from the loam + utility lands, so you'll get it all back no matter what your opponent puts in the graveyard.  The cycling lands give you lots of card draw with life from the loam.  Manabond and ensnaring bridge are great.  I really need a crucible of worlds.  I'd like another intuition and an engineered explosives.  I'm excited about trying this out, because there should really be a TON of choices to make every game.

That's awesome. I'd love to see this deck in action.

I'm looking forward to developing it.  I think it will be full of surprises.  Like I found that ghost quarters are awesome for pulling basic land out of your own deck when you have loam and manabond going.  But fitting in more basic land could be a challenge...
