Eighth Place (2-6)

"The choice of colours was obvious.  The most powerful, most often-used cards in the set are Hymn to Tourach, Order of the Ebon Hand and Order of Leitbur, so black and white formed the basis of the deck.  Mindstab Thrulls gave the deck a viable discard strategy, and the Derelors provided some punch for a cheap cost.

The Hand of Justicar / Icatian Town combo may not come up much, but it's highly effective when it does.  The Combat Medic is a major headache for decks relying on direct damage to kill creatures and the Aeolipiles give Fallen Empires a little direct damage of its own.

The deck could work fast, given a good enough draw, or it could develop slowly.  With enough mana, an Order can take out just about anything on the ground.

Set MVP: Aeolipile.  Never underestimate the value of direct damage.  While this under-used artifact may not be as efficient as a Lightning Bolt, the service it provides to a deck without red is invaluable.  In many cases, an Aeolipile meant the difference between winning and losing."
