Notes

Source: Inquest #22 (Feb 1997), p.33; author: Michael Ruff

"Grab your dice, your glass beads or some pennies but, whatever you do, grab a lot of them.  You'll need 'em for this deck.  Tokens are everywhere, and it's getting tougher to keep track of 'em.  In fact, confusing your opponent with all different types of token creatures is half the fun.  'Is that a kelp token you just launched at me with your Skull Catapult?' they may ask.  You'll just chuckle as you watch your snakes, goblins and wasps overrun them.

You'll need lots of mana from all the colours, so that's where the Mana Flare and Urza's Lands come in.  Once you have the mana, try to get out your flyer tokens first, like pegasi, wasps and Tetravites - they're great on defense.  After that, swarm your opponent with poisonous snakes, citizens, thallids or sand warriors.  Use the caribou for life, and the starfish, thrulls and kelp for defense or to fling with the Catapult.  There is nothing more satisfying [than] to launch a clump of seaweed at your opponent for two damage.

And what fun would the tokens be without cards that make good use of them?  The Gate to Phyrexia can be used to destroy artifacts using tokens as fodder, and Krovikan Horror lets you pump in as many creatures as you have mana for, to come out as damage on the other end.  Meekstone and Soul Net just make sense in the deck, and so does the Superior Numbers spell.  Think of the fun you'll have killing your opponent's Polar Kraken or Maro, just by having more creatures.

One word of advice if you're facing Token-Mania... run!"
