Notes

Deck Name: Wurm

Format: Legacy
Deck Type: Tribal
Deck Theme: Monogreen Ramp with Giant Wurm Finishers
Colors: Green (splash Black)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Description

"Wurm" is a Legacy tribal deck that harnesses the primal force of green’s most colossal creatures. Built around early ramp and overwhelming late-game pressure, the deck unleashes a parade of massive Wurms backed by power-boosting effects and subtle utility tools.

Designed for casual Legacy and multiplayer games, Wurm leverages its size to dominate the battlefield. With defensive cards like Fog and Blunt the Assault, alongside mana-fixing tools like Kodama's Reach and Caravan Vigil, the deck stabilizes long enough to begin deploying threats like Carnage Wurm, Liege of the Tangle, or Wurmcoil Engine. Once the board is full, finishers like Overrun, Colossification, and Bellowing Tanglewurm deliver the final blow.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How to Play

Early Game:
Ramp early using Vine Trellis, Dawntreader Elk, Kodama’s Reach, and Caravan Vigil. Use Fog or Blunt the Assault to buy time against fast decks.

Mid-Game:
Start dropping midrange Wurms and support creatures. Kessig Recluse, Champion of Lambholt, and Acidic Slime offer solid board presence while Birthing Pod sets up key upgrades.

Late Game:
Bring out heavy hitters like Liege of the Tangle, Wurmcoil Engine, or Vorapede. Swing for lethal with Overrun or Colossification. Quicksilver Amulet can cheat threats into play at instant speed for surprise value.

Ideal Opening Hand:
2–3 Forests for early consistency
1 ramp spell (Kodama’s Reach, Caravan Vigil, or Vine Trellis)
1 early blocker (Dawntreader Elk, Sylvan Ranger)
1 mid-to-late game threat or payoff (Overrun, Colossification, Carnage Wurm)

Mulligan hands that contain only Wurms or no ramp sources

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How the Tribal Strategy Works

Though Wurms have no tribal synergy by design, the deck creates power through numbers and scale. It uses ramp to cast massive Wurms quickly, while Champion of Lambholt, Garruk’s Uprising, and Bellowing Tanglewurm provide evasion and value. Symbiotic Wurm and Liege of the Tangle can generate tokens to go wide when needed, setting up devastating board states enhanced by Overrun or Colossification.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Skill Level and Playability

"Wurm" is ideal for players who love ramp, big creatures, and winning through brute force. It requires minimal stack interaction and rewards proper sequencing and threat prioritization.

Difficulty Level: Beginner to Intermediate
Playstyle: Slow ramp followed by explosive board presence
Best For: Multiplayer and casual Legacy environments

Competitive Profile and Ratings

Power Level: ⭐⭐☆☆☆ (2/5)
Crushes opponents if it stabilizes, but struggles against fast and interactive decks.

Speed: ⭐⭐☆☆☆ (2/5)
Ramp-focused; lethal potential around turn 6–8.

Resilience: ⭐⭐☆☆☆ (2/5)
Weak to sweepers and exile effects. Very limited recursion.

Complexity: ⭐⭐☆☆☆ (2/5)
Simple, intuitive sequencing. Great for casual play.

Best Format Fit:
⭐⭐⭐☆☆ Casual Legacy
⭐⭐☆☆☆ Multiplayer (4+ players)
⭐☆☆☆☆ Competitive Tournaments

Tribal vs Mechanic-Based vs Combo Ratio:
70% Tribal / 15% Mechanic-Based / 15% Combo
The deck revolves around Wurm creatures as its primary win condition (Tribal), uses Birthing Pod and Quicksilver Amulet for alternative threat deployment (Mechanic-Based), and closes games with explosive finishers like Overrun and Colossification (Combo).

Play Like a Pro – 5 Tips for Mastering the Deck

Ramp before anything else. Your curve is steep — get your mana engine running early.

Use Fog wisely. It’s your time-buying tool. One Fog can equal a free turn.

Don’t overextend. Especially against blue-white decks or mass removal.

Pod with purpose. Know your upgrade chains — e.g., Sylvan Ranger → Acidic Slime → Carnage Wurm.

Finish clean. Don’t cast Overrun too early. Set up an unanswerable swing.
