Deck Name: Vraska’s Covenant

Format: Legacy
Deck Type: Tribal-Control
Deck Theme: Golgari Elves – Sacrifice, Recursion & Drain Engine
Colors: Black-Green (Golgari)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Description

“Vraska’s Covenant” is a Legacy tribal-control deck that transforms death itself into a resource.
By weaving the natural growth of Elves with Golgari sacrifice and recursion, this deck thrives in long, grindy battles.
Every fallen creature fuels the next wave—each death triggers drain effects, recursion loops, or card advantage, while your planeswalkers (Vraska, Liliana, Nissa, Garruk) orchestrate the decay and regrowth of the forest.

The deck excels in multiplayer and 1v1 Legacy alike, especially against aggressive and midrange strategies.
With an arsenal of removal (Fatal Push, Assassin’s Trophy), resilient creatures (Poison-Tip Archer, Rhys the Exiled) and recursion engines (Liliana Defiant Necromancer, Living Death), it sustains board presence through wipes and turns every exchange into progress.
Once the drain engine is established, opponents quickly discover that in Vraska’s forest, death is only the beginning.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How to Play

Early Game:
Ramp quickly with Elvish Mystic and Heritage Druid.
Use Fatal Push or Assassin’s Trophy to remove early blockers or hate pieces.
Deploy Prowess of the Fair early to convert losses into 1/1 Elf tokens.

Mid-Game:
Develop value engines — Poison-Tip Archer, Shaman of the Pack, or Liliana flipped for recursion.
Protect your planeswalkers and let Vraska, Golgari Queen turn excess permanents into draw.
Trade creatures freely; every death triggers drain and generates more bodies for the next wave.

Late Game:
Close the game through Living Death or Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord sacrifices.
Nissa of Shadowed Boughs reanimates key elves or finishers.
Your emblem engines (Nissa, Liliana, Vraska) guarantee inevitability once online.

Ideal Opening Hand:
2 lands (at least 1 green source),
1 mana dork,
1 interaction spell (Fatal Push or Trophy),
and 1 drain piece (Poison-Tip Archer or Shaman of the Pack).

Mulligan if you lack ramp or early plays; the deck demands development by turn 2.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How the Combo Works

Set Up the Engine:
Establish Prowess of the Fair and a few elves.
Play Poison-Tip Archer or Shaman of the Pack to turn every death into life-loss.

Exploit the Cycle:
Use combat trades or Vraska’s sacrifice ability to trigger deaths.
Liliana Defiant Necromancer and Unearth recur what you lose, creating a perpetual drain loop.

Finish the Game:
Cast Living Death with a full graveyard — opponents’ boards vanish while your elves return, retriggering all drain effects for lethal damage.
Alternatively, sacrifice a massive elf to Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord for a direct kill.
The deck doesn’t rely on one combo but on overlapping engines that guarantee attrition-based victory.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sideboard Strategy

Against Aggro Decks:
Bring in Heroic Intervention, Veil of Summer, Scavenging Ooze.
Cut slower recursion like Living Death.
Focus on stabilizing and lifegain through Wellwisher or drain loops.

Against Control Decks:
Add Thoughtseize, Duress, and Assassin’s Trophy for key answers.
Protect your planeswalkers and recursion lines; use Vraska’s +2 for card draw when hands run empty.

Against Combo Decks:
Insert Leyline of the Void, Surgical Extraction, and Thoughtseize.
Disrupt tutoring and graveyard engines early.

Against Artifact / Enchantment Strategies:
Use Reclamation Sage, Abrupt Decay, and Maelstrom Pulse for flexible removal.
Keep pressure constant; most combos crumble under repeat drains.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Skill Level and Playability

“Vraska’s Covenant” rewards strategic patience and sequencing mastery.
It’s ideal for players who enjoy incremental advantage, recursion puzzles, and synergistic tribal combat.
Knowing when to trade, when to recur, and when to unleash Living Death defines success.

Difficulty Level: Intermediate to Advanced
Playstyle: Attrition-Control with Tribal Engines
Best For: Legacy casual competitive and multiplayer play

Play Like a Pro – 5 Tips for Mastering the Deck

Trade early and often — every dead Elf is a resource.

Protect your recursion spells; don’t waste Unearth on minor targets.

Turn planeswalkers into engines, not finishers — their value over time wins the grind.

Time Living Death carefully — cast it only when your graveyard outnumbers your board.

Don’t rush to finish; attrition is your weapon — the forest always outlasts steel.

Bonus: If you ever ultimate Vraska, Golgari Queen, remember — every Elf becomes an executioner.
