Deck Name: Biohazard Protocol

Format: Legacy
Deck Type: Combo-Control
Deck Theme: Creature-Sacrifice Combo – Protean Hulk + Mikaeus, the Unhallowed + Walking Ballista
Colors: Sultai (Green-Blue-Black)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Description

“Biohazard Protocol” is a Legacy combo-control deck that transforms life and death into a recursive, weaponized process. By exploiting the death trigger of Protean Hulk and pairing it with Mikaeus, the Unhallowed and Walking Ballista, the deck assembles a biological machine capable of infinite regeneration and total annihilation.

Unlike banned “Flash Hulk” strategies, Biohazard Protocol achieves its deadly synergy through Eldritch Evolution, Neoform, and Reanimate — legitimate and controllable methods that ensure consistency and legality. Each sacrifice becomes a calculated mutation; each recursion, another step toward engineered extinction.

The deck operates as a control-combo hybrid: it stabilizes with counterspells, discard, and graveyard setup, before evolving into a surgical kill. Every game plays like a containment breach waiting to happen — and once the loop activates, the table is wiped out in seconds.

Biohazard Protocol thrives in both multiplayer and 1v1 Legacy environments, punishing unprepared opponents with its inevitability and resilience. Once the experimental sequence begins, there is no cure.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How to Play

Early Game:
Develop mana and stabilize. Fetchlands and shocklands fix your colors, while Birds of Paradise and Elvish Spirit Guide accelerate your setup. Use Entomb to send Protean Hulk or combo pieces to the graveyard. Deploy early disruption like Thoughtseize or Force of Will to prevent enemy pressure.

Mid-Game:
Transition into your setup phase. Use Eldritch Evolution or Neoform to sacrifice smaller creatures into Protean Hulk, or reanimate him directly with Reanimate, Animate Dead, or Necromancy. Keep mana open for protection — Veil of Summer and Force of Will guard the experiment from interruption.

Late Game:
Once Protean Hulk dies, the contagion begins. Search for Mikaeus, the Unhallowed and Walking Ballista, triggering the infinite death-and-respawn cycle. The Ballista deals infinite damage to every opponent, symbolizing the complete spread of the Biohazard Protocol.

If the combo is disrupted, rely on Eternal Witness to recycle key spells and Blood Artist as an alternate finisher. Control decks that think they’re safe will quickly find that nothing resists infinite recursion.

Ideal Opening Hand:
2 lands (preferably fetches)
1 acceleration source (Spirit Guide or Birds)
1 Entomb or tutor (Evolution, Neoform)
1 protection spell (Veil or Force)
and ideally 1 reanimation effect.

Mulligan any hand that cannot access either the graveyard or a tutor by turn 2.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How the Combo Works

Step 1 – Initiate Sacrifice:
Cast or reanimate Protean Hulk, then sacrifice it via Altar of Dementia, Eldritch Evolution, or Neoform.

Step 2 – Search the Genome:
Hulk’s death trigger fetches Mikaeus, the Unhallowed and Walking Ballista (total CMC = 6).

Step 3 – Trigger the Outbreak:
Ballista enters the battlefield with 1 +1/+1 counter. Remove it to deal 1 damage to itself, causing it to die.

Step 4 – Mutation Loop:
Mikaeus’s Undying ability returns Ballista to the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter. Ballista again removes the counter, shooting itself to death — infinitely.

Step 5 – Extinction Event:
Repeat until all opponents are dead. Infinite death, infinite damage. You can even mill yourself with Altar of Dementia for alternate win conditions, or use Blood Artist for life drain variants.

This combo is highly compact, resilient to most interaction, and wins instantly once assembled. Graveyard hate slows it down but does not stop it completely, thanks to redundant reanimation and tutor lines.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sideboard Strategy

Against Aggro Decks:
Toxic Deluge and Collective Brutality manage wide creature boards.
Trim one or two slow reanimation pieces for more removal.
Early Thoughtseize often wins games by stripping their key threat.

Against Control Decks:
Add Veil of Summer, Force of Negation, and Flusterstorm to win counter wars.
Remove excess sac outlets or redundant tutors.
Play patiently — protect the combo at all costs, and force control to tap out first.

Against Combo Decks:
Bring in Flusterstorm, Duress/Thoughtseize, and Force of Negation for early disruption.
Outrace or out-control depending on matchup speed.
Your combo is faster than most storm decks once protected.

Against Graveyard Hate / Artifact Hate:
Force of Vigor and Abrupt Decay clear Leyline of the Void, Rest in Peace, or Grafdigger’s Cage.
Side in alternate win paths with Blood Artist or Altar of Dementia loops if necessary.

Play Like a Pro – 5 Tips for Mastering the Deck

1. Don’t rush the kill.
Assemble the combo only when you have protection. A single counterspell can end your sequence.

2. Learn every Hulk line.
You can fetch different creature packages depending on the situation — sometimes Blood Artist + Seer + Body Double is safer than the full Mikaeus line.

3. Mulligan intelligently.
You don’t need combo pieces immediately — you need a path to them. Prioritize tutors and protection, not wincons.

4. Keep the lab sealed.
Don’t expose your combo until you’re ready to execute. Opponents often overcommit when they think you’re still setting up.

5. Use Force of Will judiciously.
Every blue card matters. Protect your Hulk, not your pride. Let irrelevant threats resolve — you only counter what kills your sequence.

Bonus: Never forget Eternal Witness. She’s your failsafe — recursion for tutors, reanimation, or protection. Use her smartly, and the experiment never fails twice.
