Deck Name: Drake Me Up Before You Go-Go

Format: Legacy
Deck Type: Mechanic-Based Tempo with Tribal Flavor
Deck Theme: Spell-Based Token Generation – Talrand + Delver + Burn
Colors: Blue-Red (Izzet)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Description

"Drake Me Up Before You Go-Go" is a high-tempo Izzet control deck that overwhelms opponents with spell-fueled efficiency and a storm of airborne threats. Powered by Talrand, Sky Summoner, Delver of Secrets, and a suite of cheap instants and sorceries, the deck creates a relentless stream of 2/2 flying Drake tokens while protecting its tempo with counters and removal.

With flexible interaction (Lightning Bolt, Counterspell), recursive threats (Delver, Sprite Dragon), and combat dominance via Gravitational Shift, the deck controls the pace of the game and turns every spell into board advantage. It’s fast, disruptive, and stylish — much like the name suggests.

This deck thrives in 1v1 Legacy environments and high-power multiplayer tables, excelling against fair decks that rely on creatures or incremental value. Its play pattern rewards smart sequencing, tempo reads, and calculated aggression.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How to Play

Early Game:
Use cheap threats like Delver of Secrets, Young Pyromancer, or Sprite Dragon to start building pressure. Cantrips like Opt and Consider dig through the deck while keeping up mana for Spell Pierce or Lightning Bolt to disrupt early plays.

Mid-Game:
Cast Talrand, Sky Summoner when you’re ready to chain spells for multiple Drake tokens. Protect your threats using Force of Negation, Fading Hope, or Counterspell, and take advantage of tempo by bouncing blockers or removing key threats.

Late Game:
Flood the board with spells and tokens, then finish with Gravitational Shift to pump your entire aerial army. Use Drake Haven if drawn for added value from cycling or spare mana. A single turn with 3–5 Drakes can represent lethal.

Ideal Opening Hand:
2 lands (preferably one Island, one red source)
1–2 early threats (Delver, Pyromancer, Talrand)
1 cantrip (Opt, Consider)
1 piece of interaction (Bolt, Pierce)

Mulligan if the hand is all spells with no threat or only reactive cards.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How the Tempo-Control Strategy Works

This deck turns every spell into pressure:
Talrand produces flying 2/2 Drakes with every instant or sorcery cast.
Delver of Secrets flips early to become a fast clock.
Cheap cantrips like Opt and Consider provide consistency while triggering token creation.
Tempo tools like Fading Hope and Lightning Bolt remove blockers and slow down opposing plans.
Gravitational Shift ends the game once you’ve taken control of the sky.

It’s a snowball strategy built on casting multiple spells per turn and protecting your board until the opponent collapses under flying pressure.

Skill Level and Playability

"Drake Me Up Before You Go-Go" is perfect for players who enjoy fast-paced spell interactions with token-based payoff. It rewards efficient sequencing, bluffing, and precise mana use.

Difficulty Level: Intermediate to Advanced
Playstyle: Aggro-tempo control with recursive spell synergy
Best For: 1v1 Legacy high-power casual or competitive pods

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Competitive Profile and Ratings

Power Level: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ (4/5)
Can close out games quickly with token engines and aggressive flyers. Especially effective when opponents stumble or fall behind early.

Speed: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ (4/5)
Pressure begins as early as turn 1 with Delver. Token creation scales explosively with each spell.

Resilience: ⭐⭐⭐☆☆ (3/5)
Tempo-based, so vulnerable to well-timed sweepers. Capable of recovery through Talrand, cheap spells, and draw enchantments.

Complexity: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ (4/5)
Requires strong sequencing and turn planning. Knowing when to tap out or hold up mana is critical.

Best Format Fit:
⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ 1v1 Competitive Casual
⭐⭐⭐☆☆ Multiplayer (4+ players)
⭐☆☆☆☆ Competitive Legacy (without Force-heavy upgrades)

Tribal vs Mechanic-Based vs Combo Ratio:
30% Tribal / 60% Mechanic-Based / 10% Combo
The tribal component is represented by Talrand, Talrand’s Invocation, and flavor Drakes. The core strategy revolves around spells triggering tokens and interaction (mechanic-based), with Gravitational Shift acting as a pseudo-combo finisher that ends games suddenly.

Play Like a Pro – 5 Tips for Mastering the Deck

Don’t waste Talrand. Drop him only if you can follow up with spells immediately or protect him.

Curate hands for velocity. Keep cantrips over midrange draw – you need tempo, not bulk.

Sequence smart. Consider → Delver → Pierce leaves mana open and builds board.

Count their resources. A Flusterstorm for 3 is better than a Force at the wrong time.

Gravitational Shift = checkmate. Don’t play it unless it’s for lethal or complete board lock.

Bonus: Use bluff mana aggressively. They don’t know you kept Opt instead of Force.
