Deck Name: The Frozen Stack

Format: Legacy
Deck Type: Mechanic-Based Control-Tempo
Deck Theme: Tap/Frostlock Control with Leviathan Finishers
Colors: Blue (Mono-Blue)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Description

"The Frozen Stack" is a mono-blue control-tempo deck that manipulates the battlefield through frost-themed lockdown effects and untap tricks, culminating in devastating sea creature finishers. By freezing enemy creatures, bouncing key threats, and abusing untap mechanics, the deck gains complete control of the board state while preparing a slow but unstoppable wave of pressure.

It thrives in multiplayer and casual 1v1 Legacy games, using powerful tempo disruption tools like Choking Tethers, Frozen Aether, and Narcolepsy to slow down aggression. Meanwhile, Fatestitcher, Twiddle, and Energy Tap generate bursts of mana or control flexibility. Once the tide has turned, the deck drops colossal threats like Stormtide Leviathan, Lorthos, or Scourge of Fleets to dominate the game.

This deck is an exercise in timing, tempo, and inevitability — ideal for players who enjoy strategic control without relying on traditional counter-heavy shells.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How to Play

Early Game:
Establish mana with Everflowing Chalice, Halimar Depths, and Mystic Sanctuary.
Stall fast threats with Narcolepsy, Frozen Solid, and Boomerang.
Use Twiddle, Enervate, or Fatestitcher to untap mana sources or utility permanents.

Mid-Game:
Leverage Thing in the Ice for board control and to set up board resets.
Use Sigil of Sleep with tap creatures to bounce threats while building value.
Cast spells like Breaking Wave or Scourge of Fleets to disrupt opponents while developing your board.

Late Game:
Drop finishers like Stormtide Leviathan, Kederekt Leviathan, or Lorthos to lock down the board.
Protect them with Kira, Great Glass-Spinner, Thassa, God of the Sea, or bounce/tempo tools.
Ultimate Tamiyo, the Moon Sage if possible to go infinite with recursion.

Ideal Opening Hand:
2 lands (one utility like Halimar Depths or Mystic Sanctuary)
1 tap/removal effect (Narcolepsy, Pongify)
1 ramp or untap card (Twiddle, Chalice)
1 draw/filter effect or value spell

Avoid slow hands with all finishers or high CMC spells — mulligan for control of early tempo.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How the Mechanic-Based Strategy Works

The deck focuses on tap and freeze mechanics to control the board state without traditional mass removal. Tap effects pair with bounce and untap tricks to dominate tempo.

Key creatures like Fatestitcher and Sigil of Sleep create soft locks, while Thing in the Ice flips into a 7/8 board wipe. Untap tools like Minamo, School at Water’s Edge, Twiddle, and Enervate keep key permanents or mana online, fueling combo turns or late-game bombs.

The deck relies on careful planning — managing your tap/untap sequences is more important than countering spells.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sideboard Strategy

Against Aggro Decks:
Aetherize, Echoing Truth, and Exclusion Mage bounce entire boards or key threats.
Stern Scolding stops small creatures early and protects your setup.

Against Control Decks:
Misdirection protects key cards from targeted disruption.
Jace’s Archivist forces symmetrical draws, disrupting hands and refreshing your options.
Robe of Mirrors makes your key finishers hexproof.

Against Combo Decks:
Annul for artifact/enchantment combos.
Tormod’s Crypt versus graveyard loops.
Reality Shift to permanently exile key creatures.
Sapphire Charm provides utility and trickery.

Against Swarm/Token Boards:
Aetherize and Sleep reset the board without harming your side.

Play Like a Pro – 5 Tips for Mastering the Deck

Don’t rush your finishers.
Your power lies in inevitability. Control first, win later.

Tap smart, not fast.
Choose targets that actually matter. Don’t tap a threat you’ll bounce anyway.

Use Fatestitcher and Twiddle reactively.
They can untap lands, combo tools, or freeze blockers at instant speed.

Thing in the Ice is your friend.
Flip it only when you’re ready to swing — timing is everything.

Leviathans are more than beaters.
Use their ETBs to stall opponents and buy even more time.
