Deck Name: Aura of Mortality

Format: Legacy
Deck Type: Mechanic-Based Midrange-Control
Deck Theme: Life Gain & Drain Conversion
Colors: White-Black (Orzhov)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Description

"Aura of Mortality" is a methodical symphony of life and death, turning healing into harm and lifegain into lethal pressure. This deck uses every heartbeat as a weapon, draining opponents while empowering itself with resilience and inevitability. Whether stalling aggressive threats or draining the table in multiplayer, it turns your life total into a win condition.

Utilizing creatures like Soul Warden, Cleric of Life’s Bond, and Marauding Blight-Priest, the deck snowballs tiny triggers into sweeping damage. Meanwhile, Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose and Exquisite Blood set up game-ending combos. With Sorin, Vengeful Bloodlord and Witch of the Moors, recursion and attrition become your long game.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How to Play

Early Game:
Stabilize with Soul Warden, Ajani’s Welcome, and Vampire of the Dire Moon to gain life and deter early attacks. Deploy Cleric of Life’s Bond for scaling lifegain and pressure.

Mid-Game:
Shift into control by using Marauding Blight-Priest and Vito to weaponize your lifegain. Use Mortify, Despark, and Oath of Kaya to deal with mid-size threats while chipping away at opponent life totals. Bring back key creatures with Sorin to maintain presence.

Late Game:
Lock the board with Painful Quandary and Witch of the Moors. Assemble Exquisite Blood + Vito for a devastating win. A single life gain can now end the game instantly. The inevitability builds as your opponent runs out of ways to respond while your board becomes a death engine.

Ideal Opening Hand:
2 Lands (preferably one of each color)
1 Early drop like Soul Warden or Vampire of the Dire Moon
1 Enabler like Cleric of Life’s Bond
1 Removal spell or lifegain trigger

Mulligan if hand lacks mana or synergy pieces

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How the Mechanic Works

This deck revolves around the lifegain–drain engine, where gaining life triggers multiple effects that damage the opponent or grow your board. Cards like Marauding Blight-Priest and Vito translate every point of life gained into loss for your enemy. Exquisite Blood turns this loop infinite, forming an instant-win condition.

Meanwhile, support tools like Oath of Kaya, Sorin, and Witch of the Moors provide recursion, pressure, and battlefield control. The synergy web means that even without combo, the deck steadily bleeds opponents out while regenerating its own resources.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sideboard Strategy

Against Aggro Decks:
Revenge of Ravens and Trespasser's Curse punish attackers.
Cleric Class increases lifegain efficiency and scales over time.

Against Control Decks:
Painful Quandary and Underworld Dreams drain resources and punish hand refills.
Wurmcoil Engine as a sticky threat that recurs through Sorin.

Against Life-Gain Decks:
Tainted Remedy flips the script, turning their strategy into yours.
Ethereal Absolution weakens token armies and enhances your own board.

Against Combo Decks:
Use disruption like Despark, Mortify, and pressure engines like Vito to race or out-value.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Skill Level and Playability

"Aura of Mortality" offers satisfying, incremental gameplay for those who enjoy managing resources, stacking small effects into big swings, and carefully navigating board states.

Difficulty Level: Intermediate
Playstyle: Resilient grind with combo-finisher potential
Best For: Multiplayer games or 1v1 matches with slower pacing

Competitive Profile and Ratings

Power Level: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ (4/5)
Strong engines, great synergy, with potential for instant win combos.

Mechanic-Based vs Control Ratio: 70% Mechanic-Based Engine / 30% Attrition Control
The deck uses lifegain triggers as its engine, supported by recursive control elements.

Speed: ⭐⭐☆☆☆ (2/5)
Begins slowly but scales into inevitability. Combo wins possible around Turn 6–7.

Resilience: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ (4/5)
Built-in lifegain and recursion offer strong protection against attrition.

Best Format Fit:
Excellent in Multiplayer (4+ players), especially where grind and survivability matter.

Complexity: ⭐⭐⭐☆☆ (3/5)
Timing and sequencing matter, but gameplan is intuitive once synergies are known.
