Door to Infinity
Format: Legacy
Deck Type: Mechanic-Based Combo-Control
Deck Theme: 5-Color Artifact Win Condition — Door Copy Combo
Colors: White-Blue-Black-Red-Green (WUBRG)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Description
“Door to Infinity” is a Legacy mechanic-based combo-control deck built to turn the iconic Door to Nothingness into a multiplayer, table-finishing engine. By combining artifact mana, copy engines, and protection, the deck converts a slow, single-target finisher into a theatrical multi-target collapse: once the pieces are assembled, you can copy or replicate Door activations and eliminate multiple opponents in one sequence.
The shell is resilient and reactive: countermagic, sweepers, and artifact recursion keep you alive and control the board while you build your mana and assemble copy engines such as Rings of Brighthearth, Lithoform Engine, or Mirrorworks. Tutors and recursion (Fabricate, Tezzeret, Academy Ruins) ensure consistency; Basalt Monolith lines or extra lotus-style ramp provide speed variants. The deck is tuned for multiplayer Legacy pods (3–5 players) where a single theatrical turn should decide the table.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How to Play
Early Game:
Develop a stable mana base and deploy fixing (Chromatic Lantern, Reflecting Pool, Glimmervoid). Play ramp artifacts (Myr / Talismans / Lotus effects) and keep up interaction. Prioritize keeping a soft lock on the table with counters and a sweeper available if the board gets hostile. Avoid over-committing Doors without protection.
Mid-Game:
Assemble the core engines: a Door on the battlefield or ready in hand, plus at least one copy engine (Rings, Lithoform, Mirrorworks) and reliable mana (Gilded Lotus, Basalt Monolith lines, or multiple mana rocks). Use tutors to find missing pieces and use sweepers like All Is Dust to clear non-artifact threats while leaving your artifacts intact. Hold a counterspell for the critical disruption window.
Late Game:
Execute the kill sequence: produce the required colored mana (or assemble infinite mana), activate Door targeting Player A, then use your copy engine(s) to replicate the ability (or create extra Doors) and target Players B, C, etc. If infinite mana is available, repeat until the table is dead. Always leave a protection window (Force of Negation, Dovin’s Veto, Silence) and a plan for artifact recursion (Academy Ruins, Karn) if opponents answer your finishers.
Ideal Opening Hand:
A solid opening hand generally contains:
2 lands (at least 1 artifact-compatible fixing or color source)
1–2 mana rocks (Chromatic Lantern, small Myr / Talisman) or a piece of acceleration
1 piece of interaction (Counterspell / Swan Song)
1 tutor or cantrip (Fabricate, Serum Visions)
Optionally: an early copy engine (Rings or Lithoform) or a plan to find one quickly
Mulligan aggressively if you lack acceleration + at least one interaction spell.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How the Combo Works
Set Up Defense:
Keep countermagic and sweepers available while you ramp into artifact mana and fixing. Play Chromatic Lantern / Gilded Lotus lines to guarantee access to all five colors when needed. Use Padeem / Tezzeret / Academy Ruins to protect and recover artifacts.
Create Copying Capacity:
Place one or more copy engines on the battlefield (Rings of Brighthearth, Lithoform Engine, Mirrorworks, Masterful Replication from sideboard). These allow you to either copy the activated ability of Door to Nothingness or create additional Door artifacts.
Execute the Kill:
Activate Door to Nothingness targeting one opponent. Immediately use Rings (or Lithoform) to copy that activation and target another opponent. Repeat as available — with multiple copy engines or multiple Door copies you can clear a multiplayer table in a single sequence. If an infinite mana line (Basalt Monolith + Rings or similar) is assembled, Door can be activated an arbitrary number of times to finish the table.
Recovery & Resilience:
If opponents remove Doors or copy engines, use Academy Ruins, Karn, or Fabricate to rebuild. All Is Dust / sweepers serve as a timing tool to reset boards that would otherwise wreck your plan while preserving your artifacts.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sideboard Strategy
Against Aggro (wide creature tables):
Supreme Verdict / All Is Dust — reliable sweepers to reset the board.
Silence — to stop a sudden lethal swing or to lock a fast opponent on your kill turn.
Dispatch / efficient removal — pick off early threats.
Against Control (counterheavy):
Force of Negation / Dovin’s Veto — protect the combo from lethal counter sequences.
Teferi, Time Raveler — stop instant speed interaction and secure a clean window for your turn.
Mystical Dispute — extra insurance vs blue control.
Against Combo (storm, quick combo):
Null Rod / Pithing Needle — shut down opposing artifact or mana engines.
Rest in Peace / surgical answers — if graveyard combo matter.
Flusterstorm — protect your critical spells and disrupt storm counts.
Against Artifact/Enchantment Hate:
Karn, the Great Creator + Mycosynth Lattice/Darksteel Forge (wishboard or toolbox) — alternate plans and artifact recursion.
Padeem, Consul of Innovation — provide temporary protection to crucial artifacts.
Masterful Replication — copy a key artifact you lost or create redundant Doors.
Adjust the sideboard dynamically: if a meta has heavy single-target removal, increase recursion and protection; if it’s full of fast aggro, prioritize additional sweepers and early stabilizers.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Skill Level and Playability
“Door to Infinity” rewards careful sequencing, resource accounting, and meta-awareness. You must decide when to go for the theatrical one-turn finish and when to stealthily assemble redundancy. Timing your counters, sweepers and tutors is essential. The deck is best for players comfortable with advanced lines and multiplayer politics.
Difficulty Level: Advanced
Playstyle: Reactive control that converts into a decisive mechanic-based combo finish
Best For: Multiplayer Legacy pods; casual competitive Legacy play with experienced pods
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Competitive Profile and Ratings
Power Level: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ (4/5)
The deck can end a multiplayer game in a single coordinated turn and has multiple redundancy paths; it performs very well in thoughtful Legacy multiplayer pods.
Mechanic-Based vs Combo vs Control — 60% Mechanic-Based / 25% Combo / 15% Control
Speed: ⭐⭐⭐☆☆ (3/5)
Setup is mid-to-slow but can be accelerated with lotus lines or fast Basalt Monolith combos.
Resilience: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ (4/5)
Multiple tutors, recursion, and protection increase survivability; sweepers help secure timing windows.
Complexity: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)
High sequencing complexity, color management, and political timing in multiplayer.
Best Format Fit:
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Multiplayer Legacy pods (3–5 players) — ideal environment for the deck’s theatrical finishes.
⭐⭐⭐☆☆ Casual Legacy 1v1 — needs adaptation / optimization for competitive 1v1.
⭐☆☆☆☆ Legacy tournament format (without additional tuning and restricted meta adjustments).
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Play Like a Pro – 5 Tips for Mastering the Deck
Don’t commit Doors without a protection plan. Keep at least one counter or a Silence/Teferi window before presenting the finisher.
Use Rings of Brighthearth to double tutors or critical activated abilities — value on tutors can find missing pieces mid-sequence.
Time All Is Dust as both protection and a tempo tool — it clears colored threats while keeping your artifact core intact.
Leverage political timing in multiplayer: let opponents fight each other while you build — appear as the least immediate threat until you’re ready.
If you hit an early Lithoform Engine, prioritize copying small, high-value activated abilities (tutors, mana lines) to snowball advantage fast.
Bonus: If you assemble an infinite mana line, pause and plan — infinite gives you options (mass activations, extra tutor loops, or simply ending the game) but also paints a target; ensure your protective layering is set first.
