Notes

This is just an exploration of some of the best counters matters cards in standard right now, after being inspired by some aggressive limited decks. I like a lot of the scale fast into the face of whatever people are doing right now. Luminarch Aspirant is a very good card.

One of my favorite "Combo's" is T2 aspirant into into T3 Shatterskull smasher, which leads to a 5/4 trample haste creature that does not go back to hand. If we lead on a turn 1 hellhound, this could represent 13 damage on T3 if not interacted with. Closing 7 damage from T4 with a minimum of 4 cards in hand and this board state should be pretty doable.

The original impetus for this pull though is oblivion's hunger. That card, even more than blossoming defense before it, punishes hard our opponent's exact efforts to foil our strategy. A deck that features a 4 of this card as a cantrip is going to put up results. Paired with something like swarm shambler, and now the idea of using spot removal on our creatures is likely advantageous for us. This leaves things like shadow's verdict and exile effects, which are less common, and perhaps can't be built around.

Also, Kaladheim offers quite a buffet of new cards, but many of the most busted are black, especially the boast demons. I would want to be in that color come release.

Aggro is probably a moot point for the most part though due to dimir rogues. 8 flash value evasive 1 drops, a playset of flash evasive lords, and a playset of tarmogoyf/nighthawk scavenger hybrid is likely just the continuing best aggro curve and value card for card. And that deck then gets to build around this core with spells that incidentally synergize, like a draw 4 and a counter/doom blade variant. How does one race this deck?
