Notes

I was shocked to learn that I had not, despite my history of creature/energy decks in red (notably using Goblin Arsonist as a core piece) had never come to this sort of configuration. Unlike more recent decks, I eschewed breadth for a solid core of only 13 unique spells. The deck has 31 creatures, with only two (copies of Kazuul) that do not either directly deal damage or contribute to dealing damage outside of combat, but Kazuul's triggered ability makes literal fodder for other cards. The 17/12/9/0/2 curve, which averages a paltry 1.95, is a bit deceptive, being a bit higher for creatures and benefitting by taking the contest into the early part of the mid-game before going off. The name itself is a play on Don Bluth's movie, but also of nickel metal hydride battery technology and its recharging speed, hence the capitalization.
