I started by looking at all of my planeswalkers to see what might be interesting. Of those that I have not used recently, only the black and blue options were of interest, and subtype restrictions made blue (two different copies of Jace) a terrible option. I even cut to one black title (two copies). I then started looking for things I could do with creatures, and, as I have a couple of times before, settled on Carnifex Demon. In order to get there, I needed a support structure that gave me mana and kept my opponent out of it. Basal Thrulls and Dark Rituals were a good start. Bone Splinters and Guul Draz Assassins helped more, with Illness in the Ranks and Quag Sickness aiding. In a pinch, Unmake and Vampiric Link kick in. If I can get a pair of Carnifex Demons bouncing counters back and forth, it’s all over for the other creatures, but that can power Quest for the Gravelord, which can pop up some replacement creatures after everything else is gone. The curve is 20/9/6/0/0/5, giving a 2.15 average, but only Sorin and the Carnifex Demons occupy that top spot.
